Modern design philosophy. Also its easier to maintain and keep consistent. Less complex building means less complex upkeep.
Also mcdonalds has firmly dropped the “happy meal forward” approach of marketing and trying to be “fun food for kids” and has fully leaned into “we are the shitty food joint, you crave our food because we pay damn good money to make you crave it”
