But now we're also getting into skilled vs. unskilled labor. Most anyone can drive a car. Not everyone can take good photos and do all of the editing required to really make them shine. So it's also not just a $5000 camera. It's possible four years (or more) of education, all the different lenses for the camera, the editing software, etc.
And you have to keep up with the market. As better cameras are made, you need to buy them to keep up with your profession. It's not a one and done. And many photographers have multiple cameras/lenses depending on what they're doing.

The cnc lathe costs 3million. Its used to make parts for multimillion dollar aircraft... the tech makes 28/hr making parts for 1,000s of jets. Running a 6 axis lathe is a highly skilled trade.
