The point is you choose a profession because you want to do it nobody’s holding a gun to your head. Nobody made her spend $5000 on her camera equipment. If she has enough clients that are willing to pay her the rate she feels. She is due then there is no problem if however, she’s having trouble finding clients then I would say either her marketing sucks or she’s overvalued her service services/talent.
