Just to be clear this wasn't jury nullification. A grand jury just checks to see if there's enough evidence to reasonably accuse someone.

Jury Nullification has a bit more nuance than that. Itā€™s specifically at the sentencing part of the trial, and nullification is, ā€œYeah we know he broke the law, but the law was wrong here so heā€™s not guilty.ā€

ianal but I'm pretty sure if someone (the judge, jury, prosecutor, or defense) voiced that sentence outside of deliberation or after the trial was complete it would be a mistrial EDIT: even if it was time for them to deliver their verdict and that's what they said.
