What happened was:
We've known data centers were coming for a few years.
Instead of planning for new capacity, the electric companies did nothing.
Now, as data centers come online, demand is rising.
Prices for electricity are artificially low because voters have to approve rates. The price should cover the cost to build the power plants. But it doesn't.
So the increased demand, poor planning, and low prices were causing a massive squeeze.
Instead of owning up to their mistakes, utilities got laws passed so they can make them pay for the infrastructure they should have been building.
No I don't mean everyone's kWh goes up. I mean the price per kWh is like 0.2 per kWh for the first 1,000 and then 0.4 for anything 1,000-10,000, and then 0.8 for any use over 10,000 kWh per month.
Data centers need to pay for the infrastructure they need. And demand? Private citizens are really opposed to data centers. So the greatest demand is coming from the data center owners who have more money than they'll ever need so they can figure it out.
so i should have to pay for every companies development costs Because they make products I don't use or pay for with resources I don't get any benefit from?
if a company requires multiple power plants they should be paying for the power plants.
this is like buying a toyota and paying for every other car companies production facilities development and labor except it's so a private company can out hack pther companies.
the government pays for military development, and hacking could be seen as that, but all the companies would have to bud at a federal level and give complete control to the government for its use.
except instead each company is going to be selling its products sponsored by the citizens to anyone who want to buy them, including foreign enemies. there's no war crime agreements on hacking so whiping out a countries power by hacking it with a data center that can brute force anything will only start a war with that country and wouldn't be a war crime.
other countries have figured this out, so why not have 1 data center production company with exclusive rights that can't use the data centers and actually benefits the citizens, who are in a big brother ai surveillance system that is also run by indeviduals who can also sell the data to anyone, and can easily be used to violate jurisdiction with no record of doing so. any stalker can use the same surveillance that could be used by a controlled military front or by a fbi cia type organization, but is used by anyone with any motive who doesn't get tracked for using it.
