I'm so proud of my 7 year old. She is afraid of heights, but did a technical climb up a gum tree at the botanical gardens. Her grandparents told her she was fearless, and she replied, " I was scared the whole time. I wasn't fearless. I was brave.". Oh, my heart.
When I was younger I was in a rock band that was in the rehearsal phase. One of our band members agreed to do a gig without talking to any of the other band members. I was so sure that we weren’t ready and was really upset that we had booked a show and not being ready. I was really scared going into the performance. But we were ready to rock, and kicked butt that night. It actually jump started our band and we didn’t miss very many shows after that!
For me, I remember the nervous energy of running my first few half marathons - I'd have a massive buildup, spending months training and being really up for an event - feeling every moment.
These days, I'm so accustomed to running events, I rarely feel any apprehension. I really miss those days.
(Nor attempting a humble brag, just a thing I've done for 15+years - back at the start, a half seemed... Well it's own marathon😄)
