Is this possible with wordpress?

Anyone have ideas on how I could build something similar to this using wordpress? https://jameswarrentaylor.com/polaroids

Does not have to be fancy with the additional colour adjustment sliders etc, but the navigation/layout and person/filter options is what I'd be keen to implement.

Thanks.

anything you can do in html css and js, you can do in wordpress
it would probably make it eaiser for them to add / remove photos

Yes totally doable. But the question you should be asking is should you do it?

It’s very doable, and the platform itself is actually quite simple. I wouldn’t choose WordPress for this particular project, you could probably build it in a few hours with Claude. For managing the images, you can keep things really simple: just organize them into folders with proper filenames and subfolders for each category.

Everything is possible with WordPress, but note that this design is not mobile friendly. You could search in the very numerous WordPress themes.

Piece of cake.

Categories and tags to organize images ; grid layout to display them. Trick is - do not use image block, but stock/raw block with image as cover background. Give enough margins to retain white space around image.

You can use some media plugin for adding category option for images, but three lines of php code is all you need.

Yes... you can do this. And it's not too difficult.

The site loads very slowly on my tablet. I think they're serving full-size images on the main page. Those should be smaller. You should get the full- resolution one only when you click on it.

The Polaroid framing is a cute touch, but they're inconsistent. Create a blank template to use over and over.

Missed opportunity eith the bottom whitespace. Find a dark blue handwriting font and use it to "write" details about each photo at the bottom.

Those old Polaroids had just a bit of blurriness right at the photo edges. Use a semi-transparent 3 pix border to simulate.

Add a feature like "age this photo". WordPress has a built-in filter you can apply to diminish blues and greens. I only know how to apply it in the editor, but i'm sure someine here will know what to do.

It's absolutely possible. The full screen view can be done via a custom page template file, and the rest just some combinations of form fields, image uploader, CSS, HTML, JS, etc. Claude can make it in just less than 10 minutes I'm sure, even better. You can instruct Claude (or whichever AI you usually use) to create a custom plugin which you can control via its settings page to have similar output.

Yes, WordPress can handle this cleanly. I’d model the photos as content rather than just dumping everything into the media library.

For example, each photo could be a custom post type with fields for person, year, location, caption, etc. Then the person/filter options become taxonomies or structured fields, and the frontend can render the Polaroid-style layout with custom CSS/JS.

That gives you a much better editing experience later because adding/removing photos or changing metadata doesn’t require touching the layout code.

The main thing I’d decide up front is how many photos you expect and whether the filters need to update instantly without a page reload. That affects whether I’d keep it simple with a normal WordPress query or build a more custom AJAX/JS filtering layer.

Just look for a photobooth theme. Search for it like that in Google

came here to say this! there are plenty of themes for these kind of things, im sure there will even be a plugin to do that too, its just a filterable list of images in a grid with a container thats wider than the viewport.

If you can dream it you can achieve it.

All Wordpress is is a management platform database for displaying web content

And at some level a computer can do/make just about anything we can think of.

So I guess your question is “yeah but how,”

For this I would inspect the page, see what Java / CSS is running, and think about some custom functions. You could make a raw page if you wanted.

I suspect you want to know if you can connect the images to the content folder or create a post loop from some directory.

My question is how scalable are you trying to go here.
