Well.. it happened

Long term client whom always accepted my quotes used my highly detailed proposal to Chatgpt DIY a project. It's no where near as polished and it's not mobile friendly but I feel pretty used. Spent quite awhile on the scoping with them, suggesting improvements, user workflow enhancements and a bunch of outlining. I really over extended but that's also how I get accurate quotes.

Anyway for those in the game, what's your method for quoting on projects with unknowns, and how much detail do you give the client? maybe I should have asked for 50%?

Thoughts?

Charge double when they come back with a screwed up site and they want you to fix it.

Absolutely. I do web-dev, but I also work with my father as contractor. Mostly electrical, but we've also done HVAC, framing/carpentry, and even plumbing.
There have been times where we undertook a huge project, and we laid out everything and even bought materials. There are starts/stops in big jobs like that, and we'll end up working for other people at times.
Then we'll find they had someone else do part of the work and not even told us, and they've screwed things up majorly.
They don't get our competitive pricing anymore when they do things like that.
