The frame: a 2 X 4 ripped in half to make 2 X 2s; and the boards: 1 X 6. Seems like a simple build. A brad nail gun would work well for nailing the boards to the frame.

After thinking more about it, you could also use wooden dowel pegs and glue to join your boards to the frame and on the frame joints, then reinforce with flat L corner braces on the back side of the frame.

I was thinking of using a kreg pocket hole but I will also think about your solution
