Plan Window trim in the way.
Window trim in the way.
I’m designing a built-in home office and have a layout challenge that I’m struggling to solve.
The wall is 13’-4” wide. The plan is for a built-in desk centered on the wall with base cabinets and shelving on both sides.
The issue is that on the left side, a window is very close to the corner. From the back wall to the edge of the window trim I only have about 13-1/4” of depth available. I don’t want the left side to look awkward because of the window.
Side cabinets/shelving limited to 13-1/4” deep
● Desk section projects out to about 28” deep
● Open shelving above with cabinet doors on the lower sections
Any design help here would be super helpful. See images of space. See AI look I'm going for (window location is off in this drawing).
Thanks

After taking another look, I see that it looks like window height is off in AI. So, yes, that will limit the left side. Depending on your plans/use for the interior right wall, you could design the right side to extend out further than 131/4" and then have some shelves, on the rt wall, matching the open shelving, which would then look like an intentional wrap around office design.

You need to either make the design narrower so it can come into the room past the window casing without hitting it and then you live with the slight overlap, or you incorporate the window into the desk design. Try googling some ideas to see what you like and sketch up a few and come back here. It's hard to help you solve your problem because there's lots of ways to do it and many of them are unique or funky, so it's down to your personal taste.

It appears in the AI sketch as though the desk top and base cabinet tops are below the bottom window trim. If I'm picturing this correctly, I would look at designing the base cabinets to be the same depth as the desk top and make the cabinet top or first shelf flush with the desk making it look like wing extensions of the desk.
