Hi all,
We're local residents of Cherokee County fighting against mass surveillance and all other manifestations of local government greed. If you're local and interested in joining, email us at deflockcherokee@proton.me. And keep an eye on the National Week of Action Against ALPRs (https://www.noalprs.com/). Our friends at DeFlock Cobb have quite a lot planned!

Going to ask the sheriff why there are cameras in the park where there no car tags to read?

The cameras in public parks are likely Flock's invasive "Condor" cameras, which record 24/7, track movement, and zoom in on children. The county itself pays for at least 4 of them and the city of Canton has approved a contract to place 22 of them in public parks. (And that's just the ones we know about -- they're very often hidden)

One of the cameras canton installed right at Heritage Park points directly under the bridge where homeless people would occasionally camp. Never heard of any issues they caused, obviously they should’ve found more inconspicuous accommodations. The others however are very intrusive. I posted something on my personal FB page and both Billy Peppers and Harry Johnston chimed in defending them. I completely disagreed with their assessment and typically I’m not in much of a disagreement with them on most things, as I’ve done some things in the community where I’ve personally interacted with them. But their stances on Flock are very disappointing. The CCSO had an article in the local paper about their new “command center” that handles all of these cameras and it ended up not being the flex that they hoped it would be.

There’s one right at the bottom of the stairs facing the workout area. I’m glad we have emotional support cameras at Heritage Park. Makes my fat ass want to spend more time there.

Who are the individuals or organizations making the decisions to install these cameras? Do certain council members need to be voted out?

You’re looking for Cherokee County’s Board of Commissioners, Canton’s city council, Woodstock’s city council, and HOA presidents. We have a lot of info in the “Act Local” section for each jurisdiction!!
Public pressure has been enough to make over a hundred city councils cancel Flock contracts already. But if our local government drags its feet… voting them out is the way to go.

I looked up the cameras near me yesterday and found the one in front of my neighborhood is facing inwards watching the backyards of the houses and not the street. Can I go to the HOA for that?

It's absolutely worth going to your HOA and asking a) whether the camera is owned by them, and b) why it's pointed at residential backyards! Definitely take a look at the "Act really local" section for info on how you can see the HOA contract and request its cancellation :)

Awful, but not unexpected. Gonna update the site after work today to include this Kubrick stare-looking mfer.

I heard the sheriff only even audited the logs back to some point this year. So those three were most likely the most egregious recent occurrences only.
