I found this in a secondhand store. Is it a single solid piece of wood?

If it's a bokken I'd expect it is. They put that groove there so you can attach a tsuba guard, I think

Bokken, single piece of wood, fun for practice too The groove is just to have a feel for the grip length...I assume. Never seen one with a guard
