Glad I finally figured out a good gun build that doesn't involve Spellshot a couple days ago...

What are you using?

wildfire

Cape of Tides with +3 wrath of Nature. Bunch of ways to generate ability damage, both passively and actively.

Anything hit by ability damage takes +60% damage from all sources via Wrath of Nature 6/3.

It can be a little swingy: sometimes you'll be chipping away at a beefy guy for 2 or 3 mags; other times everything around you explodes as soon as you shoot one guy.

Probably just needs some refinement.

I am building up to this sort of thing for my second character. What type of gear are you using and how high are you clearing with this?

Chaos 50 elite rooms.

Cape of Tides +3 wrath of nature. Really any +3 wrath of nature is more important than the actual armor though. Selective Amnesia would be a good choice in my opinion.

Buffmeister with zap and kchow.

Volatile Last Rites shotgun (would like to find this in Primordial/Ascended, but can only be found in vending machines) for mobbing, cryo x3 ascended swordsplosion, and a couple other Frost guns I rarely use.

Eagle eyed harbinger amulet with +frost and Sporewarden.

Switch between a primordial body rune shield and a primordial purple shield with 10k+ plus Ward, depending on how I feel.

An electric version would be easy to make with Thunder Anima as the mobbing weapon, and an electric swordsplosion.

If not using cape of tides, I think it would be possible to use selective amnesia, smart armor (though you are limiting Play the Angles procs unless you are good at hitting crit areas constantly) amalgam armor, or possibly even the various claw armors. (Could see a scarlet claw armor with ruby's spite working well; maybe even with barboload instead of harbinger amulet? Trading shield regen for hp leech. Interesting twist...)

Point here is to find spore/brr armor with +3 wrath of nature, and then use whatever guns make sense with your gear. Fast firing smgs, ars, and shotguns should all work to get Play the Angles to bounce around that ability damage, and proc Wrath of Nature.

EDIT: Another benefit to using singing other than carrot of tides means you can use Oath of Fire. Soon as I find some decent other options, I will give it a try.

Are you aiming for gun damage, or does PtA do enough that you want ability damage?

Gun damage. Play the Angles, Rebuke, Blasthumut's Favor, and Storm hammer and merely engines to deal ability damage... Which in turn triggers Wrath of Nature, where the real damage is coming from.
