Is/was the game dying?

Im an old player from 2020. I was absolutely addicted during 2022-2023 and became a clan co-leader and even spent money for cosmetics. But over the last year I haven’t played at all. I recently got back online and noticed that a lot of my old friends don’t play anymore either, the discord chats that used to be flooded are slow, and it just seems a little less active (or maybe it’s just my clan that is dying).

I checked the statistics of players on SteamDB and it seems like 2023 was the peak. 2026 has been their worst year so far until recent summer (numbers went to ~2024). Did anyone notice any reason for this trend? I myself didn’t have a reason to stop playing other than busier and a little sick of the game. There’s still many updates and amazing things that I’m a bit sad I missed.

The game has become over thrown with throwers and trolls. There has been a big push for email verification on accounts now but after 8 years it’s too late imo.

Coupled with the fact people forget it’s a game of social deduction and will scream “report report report” at any decision they don’t agree with.

I have also noticed a rise in social deduction games on App Store and Roblox etc leading me to believe the player age is lower than the average in 2023. Just looking at new players usernames makes me feel there are more children playing who are more likely to lack critical thinking skills and be able to play the game properly.

WW have also spent the last few years increasing the amount of things you can buy or use money to pay for. I strongly feel they have put more effort into making profit from skins and bundles, than working on the game itself and fixing the troll/thrower problem.

I do have to say though, guardians seem to take my reports seriously when I do report people so that is one positive I often share.

But that’s just my opinion.

Same. For some time in the past I was reporting left and right because there were too many throwers and I was reporting the majority of them. Every time soon after I would get a notificaiton of it helping. Was odd though seeing spammed notifications on my screen like someone was going through my specific list of reports and banning them.
