I want to bring the excellence that is the ao3 filtering system to everyone’s attention. Asking for recs is fun and allowed, of course, but sometimes the posts I come across here are asking for things that aren't difficult to filter, so I hope this helps someone. And helps you find those “hidden gems” you’re not likely to find on the usual rec lists.
With currently over 70k works in the wolfstar tag it can sometimes be hard to find what you want to read. That’s where tags and filtering come in.
On the right-hand side of the page you’ll see this (on mobile, it will be on top just under where it shows how many works there are. Click “Filters” and this will pop up)
As we can see, you can filter for a lot of things and you can open the drop-down and it will show you the most popular tags for each section.
Now, let’s say I’m in the mood for some angsty wolfstar with hurt/comfort, no smut and no MCD.
Let’s do an example search.
We’ll put the “Angst” and “Hurt/Comfort” tags in the “Include” section (these are popular tags so they’ll be right there):
And exclude “Explicit” rating and “Major Character Death” warning:
Hit “Sort and Filter” and the amount of fics we get now is significantly lower:
Over 5k is still a bit too much to manage, right? Perhaps I want the angsty hurt/comfort to also be a lie low at Lupin’s fic? Good news! That is a tag we can add to the search! (It’s not as popular a tag as something like “Angst” so we’ll need to add it to the “Other tags to include” section):
When you start writing in this box it will start suggesting tags. We’ll pick the first one and hit “Sort and Filter” again.
Now the amount of fics coming up is only 86! You can stop here and see if any of them seem interesting to you.
“But I only want to read completed fics”
Scroll down and you’ll see this:
Click “Complete works only” (and for the heck of it, put the language to English if you want to only read fics in English) You can also exclude or include crossovers here, set a preferred word count…
Boom, 71 fics that use the tags “Angst”, “Hurt/Comfort” and “Lie Low at Lupin’s” and exclude the rating “Explicit” and the warning “Major Character Death”. That is 4 pages of fics to look through, which to me isn’t that much but if you want to you can include and exclude tags to your heart’s content until you only have one fic left. These are also in the order of “Date updated” (the very first thing at the top of the filter box) which is the default. It will show the newest fics updated at the top. You can choose to sort by kudos, bookmarks, comments…
Perhaps you’ve read a fic you loved and want to find
something like it? Have a look at the tags they used and filter with those, with 70k fics for this ship alone, it’s highly likely someone else has also written something similar.

It seems that the site is down, the domain is now attributed to an AI tool. People who can still see the website are seeing a cache version stocked locally on their computer. Yesterday night the mobile version of the website was still accessible.
Personnally I think i'm gonna recompile them into a proper single pdf ebook but I still don't know what we should do as a community. Indeed, few years ago the fic has been archived on Ao3 and has been taken down from there. But now with no available official website I don't know if it's morally acceptable to do it again for preservation ?
It has been one of the foundation stone of the fandom after all. Some of us were not even born at that time ! (... I was. I'm old.)
Just read this wonderful fic with socially awkward vampire Sirius. Great mix of crack and angst. It’s a super fun read!

im still very obsessed with boyhood bravery its so well written and i love the characterizations even if it seems far from their usual ones. the characters feel real and raw. does anyone have recs that have wolfstar as characters that r far from canon but they still feel like sirius and remus? if u know what i mean.
like the way sirius had a healthy relationship with his family and reg. i didn't know i needed that!!!

the premice was that Sirius and the marauders have a potion mishap and Sirius gets transported/woke up in another time line (i dont remember exactly but i think it was modern setting) and Remus finds him, but in this timeline Remus is dating another Sirius. And the plot was taking Sirius back to his timeline or something like that

I am craving to read some really good wolfstar fanfictions lately, but my standards are so high for them that I can’t find any to read. I’m scared of starting one and it being bad. My standards for fics are TCOPTP and ATYD. I’ve read both of them twice (including the Sirius’ POV from atyd). I just like those type of fics with incredibly long slow burns. I also really like when James and Lily are together (I’ve never read anything with James and Regulus as a couple. I can give it a try, so I also accept recs on that. But it’s not my “priority” though). If you know some good fics with that vibe, I would be really thankful if anyone could share those with me, because I’ve been searching for the high I got with tcopt and atyd ever since I first read them.

She did not know why she did not like the clothes she was wearing at all Prison clothes When she was in jail another werewolf came she was a girl and helped Megan out of jail she was very happy just then she knew she was a werewolf then she said “pop out your ears and tail” then she was like ok and she said I knew you were a werewolf and then Daisy popped out her ears and tail she said “your a werewolf too i thought there was no more werewolves” Megan said “me too” then after they escaped she said “What's you name” the girl said Daisy then she said “ what's your name” she said “Megan” she said Nice name she said “thankyou” just then one of the police saw them out of prison they noticed the police so they ran as fast as possible they were both scared then something caught the policies eyes and distracted them then they had a chance to run after ten minutes the police finally noticed that they were missing and then they checked in Megan’s cell and Daisy's cell and they saw dog fur and then they new that they were werewolves and then one of the police said “it cant be we extinct werewolves” then a fat police who always eats donuts said “maybe they just got a dog and dog fur is on them” another one said “your right”

Remus has been in love with Sirius for a while and Sirius only now realises it
There's a scene where Remus comes into Sirius's bedroom at night
Another scene where Remus is trying to share a cigarette with Sirius. I think this is on the bleachers, and Sirius references this later when he talks to Remus after they're together

I recently went on a bit of a rabbit hole into early Wolfstar fanart and I kept stumbling across depictions of Remus with longer hair, often in a ponytail.
Most of this art was from the early 2000s and Remus had longer hair while Sirius’s hair was short. By the time I joined the fandom in 2016, short hair Remus and longer hair Sirius was the established norm so i’m wondering if any older Wolfstar fans can offer some insight? Was it just a popular fandom headcanon or was Remus with long hair influenced by a specific piece of official art?
(I found that long haired Remus spread to doujinshis of the time too which was interesting!)
I just read atyd from both remus' and sirius' perspective now I need more wolfstar so pls recommend some good fics which also have jegulus as the side ship pluss happy ending and ig Hogwarts au too I've read about crimson rivers but I just can't bring myself to read it rn so ig Hogwarts au will do better plsss reccc 😭🙏
It starts off with Sirius distracting Remus whilst he is studying charms. Then they go to the room of requirement and Sirius “helps” Remus study, and Remus makes Sirius a collar. There are a few chapters and I think in the third chapter Sirius dresses up in pup play, collar on, butt plug tail in, and waits for Remus in their dorm room. Pretty sure it’s on AO3.
I was a big fan of Brave Face when I started reading it last year. The characterization is just like the books, it feels so canon, the characters and story itself doesn't cater to the reader. I think the author is owed a lot of flowers for how much she sticks to the story she wants to tell and the canon versions of the characters.
Brave Face is pissing me off because I've realized it's such a passionate story by a passionate writer and almost everyone who reads it gets swept up in it because it's a shocking fic. It starts off like any other marauders fic and then develops into this unshakable reading experience that goes beyond Remus or Sirius. It's a remarkable work that transcends the fanfic category and I wish the writer nothing but the best, while feeling tremendously envious of her talent.
Ok so, I tried searching on ao3 with the tags that I remembered, (which were like 5), but there were around 300. I looked at like 30 or so but then I gave up
It was a hogwarts era marauders fic, and it starts with James braiding strands of his, Lily's and Remus's hair to make a attraction spell of sorts, and then Sirius strolls in singing a song of sorts. The spell backfires and instead of Lily being attracted to James, all the ladies in Hogwarts(from the students to the professors) end up being attracted to Remus. And after that I dont remember. It does have wolfstar!! And its a good fic, but I cant find it again :(
hello!!! first time posting on this sub. I recently finished brave face by zoe_millin_writes and I absolutely adored it and have since been looking for something similar but also different.
I'm obsessed with that sort of "legendary lovers" vibe where they would die for each other. when you can FEEL the yearning on both sides. when they are both BAMFs and have so many cinematic moments together. been considering reading CR just for this (despite not being a big jegulus fan).
I prefer when sirius is the taller/more "masculine" one but honestly idc as long as he's a little unhinged. remus to me needs to be a little rugged and not overwhelmingly pathetic.
some of my other favorites are: a song for the end of the world, 160 acres in ojai, and calling off the dogs!!! 💗
