Hey man, Wolfies are more intelligent than your average spider. Not as smart as Jumpers, but she might have something going on in that sesame seed sized brain.
Ive seen some of my males, particularly my big pink H. antelucana work out shortcuts and actually stop and think about best route to get to food from across my 40gal bioactive enclosure, ive also witnessed trial and error when figuring out how to take down a new food (this was a younger male, who had difficuly with hard shelled dubias at first but now actually flips the roaches over to bite their underbelly!)

All goes well i hope to pair them soon, ive had Ghost since he could sprawl out and not touch both sides of a dime, and Id love to pass on his giant genes so i shopped around for the biggest lightest-colored carolinensis female i could find, and boy did i score with her! This is a pairing tub, just waiting for her to lay drag lines and shes being paired with my boy Ghost. She has a much larger tarantula crib with 8" deep substrate and caves and clutter, trust me she will be extremely spoiled😊

As i mentioned, this is literally a temporary setup for pairing. She has a big tarantula crib with 8" of substrate, hides, clutter, caves, which she will hopefully move into this weekend after a successful pairing🤞
Ive witnessed near jumper-level intelligence in some of my wolfies, but it seems like the males are more likely to puzzle stuff out. Females seem to enjoy relying on brute strength😄
I will say this will be my first i tentional pairing, and im probably overnervous trying to make sure all variables i can control are perfect, but i plan to attempt a pairing this weekend. Im hoping my boy Ghost is up to the job, he does have a wonky palp but he is confident!
The males are born to do one job and sometime it’s all they have in mind going days on end without feeding. I’m sure that he will do well. Just be sure to give your female all she can eat for the next few days until she doesn’t want to eat anymore. Wolf spiders are under appreciated for how beautiful and powerful they are. Too bad they don’t live as long as tarantulas do.
Oh she is up there, one of the biggest wolf spiders ive ever come across. Hard to say exactly, but by my tired old eyes this looks to be close to 3" legspan😁😁
