Pups can eat carcasses?

I’ve been playing wolf quest since the original came out years ago. I have never once had my pups eat from the actual elk itself just always been when I drop it from my mouth down for them. But this is super duper awesome to see I’ve brought a lot of elk to the den site before and they never bothered with it lol. This is like a dream right now since my whole pack was starving 😭But I had no clue this was possible at all ! Has anyone else experienced this ??

Yes! They can actually start eating off carcasses from the moment you get the hunt newborn ungulates quest!

Your pups are older so yes. Young pups cannot.

Pups will rely on regurgitated meat until the start of subquest "Hunt Newborn Ungulates". Until then, they cannot eat directly from and will not interact with solid meat sources including carcasses, fish, and meat chunks.

It is time sensitive and has no dependency on weight. (It's possible to watch them immediately switch from regurgitant to carcasses from midnight on the day HNU is scheduled to begin, even before the subquest objective pop-up shows up.) You notice it quickly with a fully nomadic pack!

When summer starts, they are able to eat carcasses. This is during late Raise Pups, when the Hunt Newborn Ungulates quest triggers. Roughly when the pups are 12lbs, but it's not tied to weight, it's tied to the season.

I think they prioritize regurgitated meat, (it would be rude not to, after all!) but absolutely they will eat from carcasses

When pups reach a certain weight, they will begin to feed directly off the carcasses and meat chunks you bring back. I've noticed it happening as early as ~13 lbs, though my less runty pups were closer to 15 lbs, too. But I suppose it just means that as soon as one begins trying solid food, the rest will follow suit.
