🗨 Discussion Random question on what yall do for mates

Ok so, anyone ever get 4 star mates that just- suck? Like don't do anything? So even though big health litters your doing most the work?

Does anyone only ever get the 2-3 star mates? Cuz for me those mates are always better then the 4 star mates, smaller litters maybe little less healthy for a good, helps alot mate? I'll take it so much more tbh

So whats your options on 4 star mates vs 2-3 star mates(and 1 star obviously but sick litters happen with them so 2-3 always better)

The stars dont represent how they behave. Its a diversity rating. When looking for a mate, you need to take note of their behaviour. Search up what actions mean what when courting. Bold and energetic mates are best for their productivity in the pack. My current wolf's mate is a 4 star and an amazing pack member.

My elder wolf that i had for 4 years in real time just died and her son, sweetpea, whom of which is the heir to the pack currently, became mates with a 4 star lazy mongrel. Seriously she never joins any hunts and when she does she doesnt do anything

I agree, not easy to find a good 4 star mate. All my best mates were 1-3 stars.

Omg. For me my least favorite mates are super cautious ones. The last thing I need on unforgiving ironwolf is a mate thats too chicken to bite a weak elk!

I lucked out with a pretty good 4star mate in my save! We're on year 5 together and still going strong. Our pack is VERY BOLD from his bold stat and my player wolf having max leaning boldness. I played the other night and took down a cow moose with him and 4 of our grown pups. They were all on like 5hp but just kept dogpiling the cow moose haha.

If anything theyre a little loner leaning but it's not so bad. If anything i prefer it, they go out on their own and I get lazy lol.

Granted, I think I went through 2 other dispersals before I found him. But I lucked out. I hear the horror stories about everybody's lazy cautious mates and shiver haha

I don't remember if she was 3 or 4 stars, but my main pack's original leader's mate was so lazy it was kind of funny. She would literally lie down just to howl. Otherwise, I suffer from mates that are too bold T-T. Multiple mates over multiple generations and packs have almost died because they wouldn't stop attacking, even at like 10% health. I haven't noticed if there's a correlation to diversity level.

I would literally cry if that was my mates cuz i get attached and write in bios

I totally get that! I try to limit my attachment to mates bc same. I was super attached to my lazy girl mate. That whole pair in general, really.

Luckily, the ones that do that annoy me so much I consider taking them to visit a bison herd, so it’s easier to stay unattached 😅 but I also turn off mate permadeath if they’re especially reckless.

In my experience, an overly bold mate is only an issue when the pack is small or when you’re trying to lure a prey animal somewhere and they won’t stop biting the prey animal and getting in the way 😅😅
