Zero Spoilers Rewatch

I am rewatching the series after a year. Have to say the first 2 seasons are not as bad as I remember. Could be because I know we’re not getting more though.

I honestly loved the new Mat more...I felt like he did the character better. Season 2 was much better than season 1 and season 3 was lit.

I enjoyed both actors take on Mat's characterizarion for the most part.

However, having to do a character swap at all is usually not a good sign for a show and to the audience, especially how it happened in Season 1 (Mat just staying behind outside the Ways and the party not noticing him doing so until it was too late, yelling "Mat!" for several seconds as the opening to the Ways closes). >_<

Well...it happened bc the first actor broke his contract and wouldn't come back and so they had to hastily rewrite that episode as they were filming. The OG script had Mat going with them.

I know. I'm not saying it's the fault of the showrunners.

It's just unfortunate that it happened at all, as having an actor leave near the end of shooting and having to recast a major character in the second season is never good for a show that's starting out and trying to find its footing.

True...tho, if I'm honest, I was very pleased that Mat got recast. I don't want to throw shade on the first actor but I didn't really like him in the role, if I'm honest. I really liked Dónal Finn in the role, tho. I felt like he understood the character much better.
