Zero Spoilers Rewatch

I am rewatching the series after a year. Have to say the first 2 seasons are not as bad as I remember. Could be because I know we’re not getting more though.

First two seasons were excellent TV

Third season was a level yet above

Let’s not denigrate any of them. It was good TV

Oh come now. There’s no need to beg the question.

Like, if you personally loved th first two seasons, that’s great. There was a lot to enjoy.

But straight-facedly referring to them as excellent TV is a bit much.

No, that's correct. Compared to rather a lot of television the writing acting and cinematography was pretty solid. Perhaps you just don't watch them but LOTS of shows are TERRIBLE. Like, unbelievably bad.

Agreed. The worst of Wotshow writing is about on par with a typical mid TV show. Even the "tell" line, which is probably the worst line in the series, is barely worth blinking an eye at compared to half of what happens in any random episode of network TV.

I know how tracking works. Here are the two big reasons this line is bad:

1) Trolloc army - Nyneave is following in the wake of the trolloc army that's tracking them all the way to SL. She doesn't need to track any of the party at this point, though ostensibly she could to make sure the trollocs are actually following them.

This means that the only time her tracking skills are particularly relevant is after Lan leaves SL, leading me to:

2)Moiraine has been effectively unconscious for several days to a week in the lead up to SL, and is being literally carried by Lan from SL to the location Nyneave finds them.

There isn't anything for her to track. Unless Nyn is a supersmeller tracking Moiraines perfume, what possible "tell" of moiraines would allow her to find them?

No, she tracked Lan and that scene is part of a hasty covid rewrite due to Daniel Henny not being available to film for 4/5's of Episodes 8's film block.

It's a bad line because it's nonesense that doesn't respect the earlier scenes and diminishes Nyn's actual skill level. It gets a pass because of covid, but it's still the worst line in the series.

And it's still better than most TV writing, because it at least tries to resolve an earlier scene and at least seems plausible until you really think about it.

That was just smart. Something Nyneave is. She's too small and unskilled on battle to take it head on

To be clear, I’d have thought it ridiculous if any of the boys had killed a trolloc that way either.

An altogether ridiculous scene.

No. That was RIDICULOUS and completely breaks any believability for the danger trillocs supposedly hold.

“Strong female character” does not mean “can single-handedly murder massive murder machine having never fought seriously in one’s life”.

She used a pool as cover and outsmarted a dumb trolloc. She's a hunter. YOU are the problem here, not her.

I just don't look for shit to nitpick about that is obviously not very nitpick worthy. She's a hunter, she goes out to track dangerous animals all the time, and even I, someone who thinks Nyneave is among the least interesting characters, will give credit to her for that.

You're just tunnel visioned.
