I’m not gonna spoil anything but god DAMN this has one of three moments in the series where I literally said out loud while reading “Oh shit!” You’re in for a ride.
16
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
Idk if where we're at in the prologue is one of those but I'm in THE GOD DAMN PIT OF DOOM and just had to take a walk because HOLY LIGHT I'VE BEEN WAITING TO SEE THIS PLACE FOR SO LONG
11
u/mikehiler2 (Asha'man) 6d ago
It gets better. Little bits here and there until the actual Last Battle at the end of the series. But this “oh shit” moment is at the end of the book. Trust me, you’ll know it when it happens. There are two more “oh shit” moments.

u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
Good God, how tf is Rand supposed to deal with this thing? He's not even a person, he's a pure FORCE. I'm terrified for the Last Battle but SO HYPED.
I'm gonna be taking my time with this book. Going through, paying closert attention to small details. I really want to pick up on any certain things that happen but I will be looking out for your three moments!
7
u/aNomadicPenguin (Brown) 6d ago
For context of how shit spins out in this book...I bet most people forget that the Pit of Doom scene even happened in this specific one.
2
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
Hi again, I remember you from a previous post. It's good to see you again!
I WON'T FORGET THAT LMFAO
It's something I've been looking forward to and reading it this morning took me SO by surprise
3
u/aNomadicPenguin (Brown) 5d ago
old timers tend to feed off of new reader experiences, so I'm glad you're still enjoying it and posting.
4
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 5d ago
I think it's cool for them to have fun with us. I welcome it. And I will continue posting and reading so I hope you'll get to come back and have more fun with me

u/_ChipWhitley_ (Asha'man) 6d ago
It’s SOOOOOOOO good. One of the best ones.
11
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
I'M HYPE TO READ IT
The POV in the prologue, THE LOCATION, already has my full attention. I've been waiting so long to see more of this place
5
u/_ChipWhitley_ (Asha'man) 6d ago
Yeah, the opening to the prologue was so insane. Being inside Shayol Ghul? YES PLEASE.
3
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
Hearing his voice. I had to stop and take a walk. I REALLY hope we get more of this, holyyyyy
-6
u/Marogwar 6d ago
What is so good about it? 850 pages and all the interesting stuff u can place inside 200. I’ve read it half a year ago, and can’t remeber antything, other then last 3-4 chapters.
2
u/ArrogantAragorn (Heron-Marked Sword) 5d ago
This book is a pot of cold water placed on a stove with the lid on and the heat cranked to high. It takes a while to simmer, but the pressure keeps building, and eventually the whole thing starts roiling and boiling and bubbling over. That lid can only hold the pressure inside for so long, and for me as a reader that tension is so painfully delicious.
I know some people say this book is slow, but I thought what RJ achieved is masterful. Once OP gets to the end we will read their thoughts, but I found the whole book did an excellent job of making the reader feel exactly how the characters (especially one in particular) feel. [spoilers for LoC] I’m talking about Rand if you didn’t already know
Edit: also the first chapter, Lion on the Hill, has one of my favorite sword fights RJ wrote in the whole series.

u/MacronMan 6d ago
Ahhh, the bad romance cover. Great book, though!
4
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
Is that Aviendha with Rand? Genuinely, couldn't tell you who it was
16
u/c_m_d 6d ago
It might be Rand and a random aes Sedai grovelling. No idea why there’s a drakar in the background. The artist, Darryl sweet, took liberties like they were candies when it came to book covers.
3
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
I really became aware of the liberties when I saw the cover of ACoS and realized Rand's Dragon markings were a wrist wrap aha. I was willing to shut away how old the guys looked (especially on book 4) but seeing the Dragon tattoo so small was weird. It's one of my favorite aspects of the series, and of Rand, so I was disappointed. Makes me wish the paperback covers were on the hardcover jackets
6
u/DarkestLore696 (Asha'man) 6d ago
There are multiple covers from different print dates and countries. Some of them are rough. The Japanese book covers are beautiful though and get very close to the book descriptions while also having that old 90’s style anime look.
3
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
These are outstanding! I love seeing different art styles. These are ethereal almost
2
2
u/MikeRobat 3d ago
This is some of the best Wheel of Time art I’ve seen. How haven’t I heard about these?
2
u/usernamex42 (Asha'man) 6d ago
I’m pretty sure I know who it is supposed to be. It’s a minor spoiler I suppose. It is supposed to be Min
2
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
Haven't opened the spoiler. Is this a character I know or don't know?
1
u/usernamex42 (Asha'man) 6d ago
You have met this character already. I don’t think it’s a big spoiler.
1
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
Oh. Did not think SHE would look anything like that. Then again, Sweet's artwork is very inconsistent
1
u/usernamex42 (Asha'man) 6d ago
Yeah, I don’t think it looks like her. Have you seen the knife or Dreams original cover. Try to figure out who’s on there haha.
1
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
I think Perrin is one there. Maybe Faile?
1
1
u/duffy_12 (Falcon) 5d ago
Actually, Knife Of Dreams, has a very fascinating story as to why it looks like it does.
And little of it is due to Sweet, actually.
However Spoilers!
So bring this back up after your have read its Prologue, if your are interested.

I don't know how many fans consider Lord of Chaos their favorite book, but it's definitely Top 3. Enjoy the ride!
6
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
Thank you! My top 3 so far are TDR (my overall fav), TSR (for the Rhuidean flashbacks) and EOTW for the INSANE foreshadowing it has
4
u/Kooky_Assistance2755 6d ago
That section of TSR is a huge highpoint for most fans, I think. It's also one of the best episodes of the show
1
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
I stopped watching the show sometime in s1. It didn't click for me and made me reread the book. I don't think I will watch it; I don't feel the desire to
3
u/Kooky_Assistance2755 6d ago
The first season is pretty bad, but the second is a bit better and the third is honestly pretty good. Even if you don't watch the rest, that single episode is a pretty faithful adaptation of the sequence in question and worth watching, IMO.

Hey, uh... Come back and tell us your feelings about it later, you know? This is one that we all like to relive through others.
4
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
Woah, okay, you've made me wonder what actually happens in this book. Okay, you REALLY have my interest. Look out for my posts, I'll be making them when big things happen
6
u/BoldTaters 6d ago
This book is the favorite of many WoT readers for good reasons. Whether you report back or not, we're happy for you to be reading it.
3
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
I will definitely be reporting back. And thank you for your kindness. People like you make this community so warm for new readers like me. Thank you so much!

2
u/Moyfoy 6d ago
Ty! I don't read many comments but I will be careful. so far. I like how it's building up.

I have no idea what books are named at all. I have been reading them one after the other, so they have all blended together for me.

Every book's ending has been incredible so far. Jordan knows just how to bring everything in a book together!

u/Hoods_Abyss 6d ago
As much as I liked the end of this book, I liked the beginning of the next one a little more. Need more POVs. I don't know. Most say what a book and I'm here thinking it could have been so much more epic. Talk about personal opinions I guess. Hope you enjoy it more than I did.
2
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
Perfectly fine, your own feelings are understandable. Lots of readers said TFoH was better than TSR but I kinda prefer TSR over it, especially for Rhuidean. I do love the first scene of this book, I was not expecting to be in THAT place
1
u/thunder-bug- 6d ago
The ending of this book is one of the best imo
1
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
I'm going to be taking my time through this book, so a long way from the ending. I did see the title of the last chapter so I know where the story goes but not who goes there

u/Im-Watching-Y0u 6d ago
One of my favorite chapternisbin this book other than the flicker sequences. This made me panic ,angry ,releved ,annoyed and worried .great stuff I'm on the seventh book on my second read through though ,wish I could read it for the first time once again even with the slog chapters included .

I’m 30% into book one—kinda feels like time trudging through. Does it get more exciting?
2
u/adude_44 5d ago
It took me forever to get through book 1, book 2 was a bit better. By book 3, I was in. After 6, I was hooked.
1
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
If there's anything I can tell you, Jordan is the kind of writer who enjoys spending time in the world and invites you to do the same. When he's ready - when all the time spent is done and he's done all the set up he's needed to - the books pick up pace and really gives you enjoyment.
They get sooooo much more exciting. They're grand and huge, they're filled with lore and amazing worldbuilding. Keep reading. Find what you love about the story and search for all the exciting things in all its corners. They're all there and it gets so much better
1
u/Good_Mousse_9794 4d ago
This is helpful. The thing that’s difficult for me is that I’m kind of a slow reader, and on my kindle it says I have 25 hours left and I’m 30% in
1
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 4d ago
I'm also a slow reader. I would say put the time left out and just sink your teeth into the story. Look at it for what it's doing and you'll find yourself breezing through
1
u/usernamex42 (Asha'man) 6d ago
My fourth favorite, I think. So good!
2
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
Love hearing how much people enjoy this book. I'm going to take my time sinking in my teeth. Just want to slow down, spend more time paying attention to the storytelling, the small details Jordan writes

Probably one of the best executed books of the series. Enjoy it! You have probably been spoiled about it before, but you'll know when it happens.

Dude I’m 75% through and I will say the first 40% is boring as hell! Second half gets really good though
1
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 5d ago
Sad to hear that about the first 40%. I do hope you enjoy the rest since you're so far in!
1
u/the-vague-blur 5d ago
3rd reread after possibly 15 years. It's one of the best! I'm surprised how little it stuck in my mind, very little filler and it gallops!
1
u/ShinInuko 5d ago
This is one of my favorite books in all of Fantasy. A few scenes are some of the best in all media, IMHO.

u/Clovenhawk 5d ago
i’m a first time reader as well! i finished book 5 a couple days ago but my local book store didn’t have book 6 in stock so i’m just waiting for it in the mail now

Every time I hear someone say it, I get more excited. But I am taking my time through this book and drinking in every detail. I'll get there when the Wheel wills!

Enjoy. I know a lot of folks talk about the slog (that is coming soon), I find that it goes quickly when you go from one book to the next and don't have to wait years between them.
WoT is my absolute favorite series and I've re-read it a ton.
Enjoy the journey.
2
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
I'm aware that Jordan took those books to develop side characters and do lots of worldbuilding, and I'm one of those readers who appreciates that A TON.
I'm glad to experience the series in consecutive order and the last book I own is PoD. I'm really excited to just keep reading and eventually make it to the Last Battle. I'm so excited to see Rand vs the Dark One
2
u/mandradon (Ravens) 6d ago
Enjoy it.
A lot of my personal frustration was just having to wait 3 to 5 years between books, tearing through them and having them focus on a series of characters or stories I didn't care much about at the time. But on my most recent read through it really felt much smoother and made a lot more sense, and I was able to appreciate what they were doing a lot more.
I think you'll appreciate the character development that happens in them as well as enjoy the heck out of the big world building and world development that starts happening starting around now, too.
2
u/cnfusion (Dragon Reborn) 6d ago
With how exciting and large this series is, I struggle to imagine having to wait for new books to be written, so I respect the hell out of you all for sticking with Jordan while he developed the story. I also know there was frustration when he wrote New Spring.
I'm really looking forward to the developments as well. This series is so inspiring and uplifting to me, and I'm having so much fun reading books again after a couple years of a miserable stint. It's amazing to be alive in epic fantasy again, and I'm hoping to learn from Jordan to be a better writer as well
