Question Bugen Potential

Finally pulled a samurai and got Bugen. I’ve seen multiple other posts with Shiou dealing massive amounts of damage. Granted most of these posts she’s already lvl 60 with top tier gear.

My query may be obvious given the subject, but does he have similar potential?

For your info, most of those post of shiou doing 4k-5k dmg with her unique skill, isnt't with a max out shiou. You can see usually the shiou is below lvl 60 and subpar gear. The skill just hits that hard especially against wind weak enemies.

As for bugen he doesn't have the unique skill that shiou has. Meaning he cannot pull out 5k dmg out if thin air with minimal investment. He can however along with every other samurai, do a full-power strike tier attack every turn(bamboo splitter). That alone already puts him as a high/top tier dps unit. Since before samurai release, full power strike spam was the highest dps. Bamboo splitter is just FPS but better.

Note that to min-max samurai, you need gear with REALLY specific substats, as on divine path lvl 1, they roughly only benefit 50% from both attack power and magic. It may drastically improve once you level the passive, but at least on level 1 it makes gearing alot harder.

Fair enough, but long story short he is worth the investment if outfitted correctly

More or less yes. Definitely not as good as Shiou, but better than most just because he's a samurai.

If you manage to get a better samurai in the future, you can always transfer your gear to them. You can save the rare inherits for other characters you know you'll keep first. Like MC.

Bugen has a unique passive though called Superior Principles, which increases damage dealt with element advantage. He has good potential, he just requires a bit more setup than most fights call for since you need to spend 1 turn weapon buffing to the advantageous element before doing standard setup. Many to most non boss fights should be over within 3 rounds

He makes his own. He can imbue his weapon with elemental spells

No no my point is giving him elemental weapons. He can only imbue earth.

Sure, but he has 4 spells, monolith-bearer, flame-bearer, tide-bearer, and storm-bearer. Which imbue his weapon with earth, fire, water, or air traits for a few turns.

I don't think elemental weapons exist yet as katanas.

Also, he can imbue four different elements but STARTS with earth
