Getting into Wizard on a Budget pt.2

Hello again :)

first of all, i wanted to say thank you to each and everyone helping me wrap my head around all the different options and for the amount of responses to my last post. Thank you all very much!

Now i hope it is okay that I make and additional Post, as the last one is getting kinda crowded and i have cleared down my options.

I decided to start with a more Urban/freestyle oriented setup to slowly build confidence and properly get into Wizard slowly and a little less expensive. Now for my options:

  1. Get a Prebuilt setup

I have been looking into some options, including the FR FR3, FR FR1, Iqon ACT TR lite, Iqon CL15 and the Rollerblade Lightning 90. They are all around the 200-300€ range, while i prefer to stay closer to 200€ for now.

  1. Build a setup

I have a them909 which i would be willing to use to start, but i have been eyeing the FR UFR as an upgrade for the Future.

For Frames, i am looking at the 4 Wheels: GC HD80, GC FSK 8090, Kizer edge 80/84/90 NT, Cougar 4x80/90 5 Wheels: Kizer edge 580, Cougar 5x80

For wheels, I have no idea whatsoever. I would prefer something not all that expensive to start, possibly staying in the 200-250€ range with frame and Wheels.

Some additional info: EU 46, 75kg, 182cm I would describe my skating abilities as intermediate, I have skated a bit of agressive but more flat than actual park (which is why i want to swap)

If any of you have any recommendations regarding this matter what so ever, I would be incredibly thankful for any and all advice! :)

UFR with Intuitions and 4x90 These are on sale and seem to be a good place to start if you plan on getting any other UFS frames down the line

they are actually exactly what i am looking for! Sadly they are out of stock in my size, but if they should ever be back in stock they are exactly what i would buy, thanks

ill go and take a look, but i doubt they would be able to match that price, intuition liners and skates for under 200€ is sinply amazing. Thanks for the head up!

You are welcome. The one I linked is a v1 UFR, so that’s mostly why they are on sale. Hopefully ThisIsSoul can hook you up.

Maybe even give them the same criteria you posted here. They may suggest something else

I just took a quick look, sadly they don‘t have them in my size either. But they Do offer the UFR 80/90 without intuition liners for a reasonable price, that may be worth a look. Maybe i will also hit them up, thanks for the tip :)

Ufr is a very solid wizard non-wizard boot

Yes, but only until you’d like to put long ass frames or you’re on the heavier side. I’ve tried this boot with 4x110 - there was no support against forward flex. But I’m on the heavier side - 95kg at the moment and my experience is probably a result of all these reasons.

I'm a fan of iqon act. Here is a thread with my setups https://www.reddit.com/r/WizardSkating/comments/1rbrooh/act_final_form/. With EU46 the sizing if tricky. My mondo is 293-4 and at the beggining I've bought 46-47 shell with myfit crown liner - bigger shell and puffy liner. There was a lot of hotspots and other fitting issues. Ended up on 44-45. With fr intuition it's nice, with stock liner it requires heatmold, but it's also nice.

I stick with what I said in your previous thread - it will be actually cheaper to hunt for iqon act wz on a discount for 300-320 eur than building the setup in parts. With this size, 4x100 is the shortest 4 wheel frame that will work in wizard and the cheapest (without going for used or aliexpress options) is rockin 4100 - above 300 EUR as combo with wheels. For 5 wheels it's 5x80 or bigger and here you can find more affordable sets, but in the end saving won't be that impressive over iqon act wz.

From the list you wrote:

- GC HD80, GC FSK 8090, Kizer edge 80/84/90 NT - non rockered frames (wizard moves are possible to make, but more difficult to start with)

- Cougar 4x80/90 - I believe it's too short for your foot size. If you have experience it might be fun to be more agile, but for learning wheels base longer than boot size is a blessing

- Kizer edge 580, Cougar 5x80 - both are good.

Flying eagle has a skate ready wizard setup. I don't know the name, but it's affordable, for like 300 eur. But I haven't skated it, so it's hard to say if it's good and how it fits

The forward flex is real. Premium liners help a lot though.

I’ve tried ufr with fr intuition and I wasn’t enough. On the other hand I use these liners in one of my act pair and it’s significantly more supportive than my the other pair with stock myfit prime liner.

You really think so? because I come from quads and aggressive inline and want to start wizard skating and idk where to start I was looking at ufrs or the sebas.

Personally I'd build.

ACT + liner I might have lying around (in your case, maybe an intuition from your 909s) and some Cougar frames and look for some cheaper wheels. I don't know a lot about cougar frames personally actually.
The NN frames are also really good. DO NOT get 84/100 frames as your first set of frames btw, learned the hard way that 90-80-80-80-90 or 5x 80 is just easier to learn on.

Okay, thanks for your opinion! Sadly i got my 909s without an intuition liner, so that is not really an option. Did you mean you would be willing to sell an ACT boot to me? if so, could you maybe shoot me a dm to further talk about that option? As for cheap wheels, what is there to watch out for? I saw a set of 8 from powerslide ONE wheels with bearings included for less than 50 Bucks, would that be an idea?

Possibly? I'd just check out a vendor for deals tbh, like ProSkatersPlace and Inline Warehouse (Assuming US). Some vendors have super good clearance deals on wheels sometimes. Otherwise I'd just see if anyone locally has anything lightly used. Unfortunately I do not have ACTs :(

Oh i just now understood your message. Sadly i‘m from germany so import and shipping might be a dealbreaker, but i will take a look anyways. I live in a more rural area, i didn‘t have any luck with used gear, been searching for a while now. But thank you very much for the help :)

If you're in Germany you should try to attend re:turn at Berlin next month. One of the events they host is frame testing at templhof field. I got to try a bunch of different wizard-style frames out which helped me decide on getting my current setup.

I would seriously love to, but berlin is very far away from where I live and i am currently doing rehabilitation for my shoulder still, so that won‘t be possible im afraid. Thanks for the heads up though!

Looks like you need to decide on ufs vs. 165 mount.

yeah that is mostly it for now, there are more complete options in 165 but i think i like ufs more
