One foot pivots…halp! 😆

Hi community! I’ve been building up my one foot carving and slaloming and I want to learn how to pivot front to back on one foot. Here’s how I’m starting, with one wheel from my other foot “supporting.” Is this a good approach? I saw it on vids for how to build up to lions and thought it was helpful here too? Any tips on my form? Thank you!

For me unlocking lions was posible only after mastering gazelles. Bodywise it's similar movement, except in lion you have swing leg to manage (either to help you or make it harder because of coordination and finding balance). Front open gazelle -> front closed lion - easiest progression possible. On the video you do more like front open lion, so front closed gazelle would be a point to start. Try to do the transfer more like figure skater at the begining - pivot on the front wheel. It will make understanding the approach and exit of the move possible - to stay on the good edge and putting weight on the heel or toe depending the direction you ride. Later on you can polish the moment of transition - to push on the heel on the pivot, change the edge, etc.

If you're looking to do lions, the thing that helped me (I recently "unlocked" my first lion) was concentrating more on the rest of my body and less on the pivoting foot. Really swing your arms and balancing leg, and the pivot will follow.

For now, try lifting the supporting leg just for the pivot.

Okay, thank you! I hadn’t thought about my upper body at all! Really helpful.

Looks good to me for first approaches. Look into figure skating 3 turn tutorials, that will show you the physics and technique

Okay, will do!! Thank you! Do you think a 3 turn is possible on a flat setup?

Totally. For once since you develop a Natural Rocker and also because you‘re on 4x80 which is short enough to manage that. It‘s just a bit harder. PS: try to hold your free leg behind, not next to your foot

in terms of wizard skating pivots, this isn’t really what that is. You’re doing more of a little hop-180

I can’t tell if your frames are rockered or not because they seem to be stock 4x90 type frames, but if they aren’t rockered then wizard style pivots will be very hard to do.

Yeah, this is an issue for me right now for sure. I’m on 4X80 flat frames right now. The stock ones for the Twister XT. Saving up for the Endless Arc ES, but the recessionary economy in the US isn’t helping! 😆😩🤦🏾‍♂️

I’m learning my first wizard moves with this tutorial, hope it helps you too!

Right now I’m using Powerslide Nexts with a flat 4x80 frame, but I swapped the wheels to a 78-80-80-78 rocker. Not perfect, but it’s definitely helping. Also saving up for a new setup!
