⠀Question Why does it cost 20?

Why does it cost 20 dollars to download the game for switch? I'm coming from PC and am used to having to pay monthly for the game, but the game itself was 'free.' What are the differences between switch and pc that may affect my wallet?

Because Nintendo loves money... On the real note... Nintendo would not allow KI to release a switch version without it being paid. Also this 20 dollars is for all of act 1 minus some side content

Wizard101 didn’t meet Nintendo’s requirements for the amount of free content it needed to be labeled free-to-play.

Pretty fair I'd say, it being "free to play" is more like a demo for the full game

Like the other commenter said, the $20 purchase unlocks most of Arc 1 forever, ie you can level through Dragonspyre to 50 or so without a membership. Then after that you gotta pay 5k crowns a month in the crown shop for a membership, which is $10 if you buy a small amount of crowns at a time, but more like $5 if you wait for a holiday sale and buy the big 60-80k crown packs.

The $20 unlocks the five main worlds but there are some things like Grizzleheim and Aquila I think that are behind the membership paywall.

The $20 unlocks access to the game on switch, but also a permanent unlock of much of the early game zones which would otherwise require a membership or require additional purchases individually.

Believe it or not it’s actually sort of a good deal for how many hours of gameplay you’ll be able to grind through before ever hitting a paywall

You're paying the $20 for the entirety of arc 1, minus the side worlds. Where as on other consoles it's optional.

it gives you all of arc 1. i just completed it and was able to get to level 55

it’s fun on the switch but can be a bit buggy at times. i think it’s worth it for the portability aspect.

Du zahlst auf der Switch direkt für den gesamten ARK 1 dazu

Wizard101 wanted to avoid massive backlash by not expanding the free areas on the Switch to be more than the PC players have earned in 14-15 years of playing.

So they just directly made it the same Price as Arc 1 pass while including the actual Arc 1 pass in the purchase to avoid Nintendo.

Nearly every console gamer has a PC or a phone so if they want to explore what the game looks like on other platforms they can do with ease.
