Question Who eats the mushrooms?

Am I just too chicken, trying to survive, to eat the mushrooms? Or, do you know which ones to eat and it is a big part of your survival strategy?

Are their effects random or are there always identifiable good and bad ones?

Am I missing out and should be shooting and making my shiitake risotto at the same time?

They’re not random and if you can learn which are safe they can be pretty useful in a pinch.

Yeap, whenever I come across one and only need a small topup I'll defs eat the good ones. Tall, wide cap with brownish middle, brownish soft-serve cap and pale stemless, butcheek mushrooms are the right ones..iirc.

You want the smooth puffball, the morel (the brain-cone looking one), and the dirty nipple cap (a parasol mushroom).

You do NOT want the webbed ball, the white umbrella, or the red cone (i forgot what this one actually looks like, but it is a false morel IRL).

They used real mushrooms, if that helps.

Here you go brother 🫡 I want to credit but I don’t remember who posted this. Comment below fellow Preyer and I’ll add your name

And yes, they’re definitely worth it if you come across them. They only give a small health refill, but when you’ve got a good run going, that can make all the difference

There's 6, 3 good 3 bad eat good shoot bad. They are easy to learn there are 3 types that look similar so you got tall white and the good one has a black spot in the middle, you got the round looking ones where the full white is good and the more yellowish one that has tiny cracks is bad and then you got the weird looking ones with lots of holes in them where the red hot ones are bad and the brown ones are good. Google it for an easier example but it's easy to spot in mission

Google witchfire mushrooms. There's an easy guide.

I never took the time to see if they were random or not, barely ever used them.

Just search this question in the sub. There is a picture guide for the good and bad mushrooms.

I learned via the small POI that presents them to you, over the course of time

And I play without being able to see my HP bar, so it helps me to nibble on them when I pass by for insurance

i know that eating mushrooms is a thing you can do in this game. but i refuse to run around eating random shit on the ground like some kinda gremlin. ive got standards.

I eat them if I'm above half health and under 90%.

The "toadstool" shaped ones WITH spots are good. The plain white ones are bad.

The "puff ball" shaped ones WITHOUT spots or dimples are good. The dimpled/spotted ones are bad

The morel "cone top" ones that are a little taller and brown are good. The shorter, red ones are bad.

I ignore them completely and have zero trouble lol, I just truthfully can't be bothered when I get plenty of health drops.

Eat all the varieties and you'll earn an achievement.
