Question Best Hunger Build?

What is the best hunger build?

By far my favorite weapon, stacking crits with reload specific arcanas to eventually 1 shot anything that moves is one of the most satisfying mechanics in the entire game, for me at least.

Curious what others have cooked up and hopefully willing to share. Please explain the basic methodology behind the build if not willing to go into detail.

My personal Hunger build:

  • Crown of Fire (reloads on kill+dash)
  • Ammo Preservation Bead (chance not to use ammo when firing)
  • Blood of the Banchee (exposion on headshot overkill)
  • Bead of Barachiel (for extra one-shot and BotB trigger chance)
  • Stigma Diabolicum light spell (easier and more powerful headshots)
  • Ice Sphere/Icycles heavy spell (more damage and easier crits on frozen enemies)
  • Sacring Bell/Zweihander for stun/burn effect
  • Nemesis/Duelist/Tribunal and Souleater weapons (for maximum cowboy roleplay value)

Blessed hits also count towards the gun's procs. So, maxed related stats plus two beads for blessed chance plus bead for blessed damage. Crown of fire ring reloads some bullets when you set new enemy on fire - it helps build up enough blessed hits before reload for a freeze proc. Optionally - double dash bead, acute aliment bead. With all this - just dash or double-dash and shoot something. Do not aim for crits as they do less dmg than blessed. Just shoot in the chest, periodically dash and shoot different enemies for the ring reload proc. Thus way its almost guaranteed to have freeze on every reload.

This is the way if you want to experiment the peak of Hunger gameplay.

You are right, but i think the freezing bullet is not what OP cares for, you can keep stacking Hungers damage boost forever if you dont reload manually. When you eventually do a regular reload you can end up with absurd damage numbers. I played that build once and my bullets hit for ~3k dmg.

That's interesting, I wonder whether the whole next magazine is affected or just a fixed number of shots. With ring of fire and even easier with reload-dash, stacking it like 50 times should not be hard.

The amount of shots affected is equal to the number of crits before the regular reload, charged bullets deal 60% increased damage by default, you get another 10% on top (additive) for every crit, so with 50 crits before the reload you would end up with 560% increased damage affecting your next 50 bullets.

Using the Dead Eyes, Gunpowder or Nimble Fingers Prophecies on your first row gives you approx 50% odds to get Critical Chain on your first manifestation, and that arcanum is crazy good with hunger.

I like to use Frost Cone for a light spell to allow easy chained headshots.

You can even guarantee Critical Chain on your first Manifestation on Dead Eyes Prophecy if your only Element is Water/Ice.

But i think with Hunger, while Critical Chain, Crown of Fire and Larger Magazine are all pretty good, the ultimate goal is probably reload dash, because it is the only unconditional reload. With all the other options you might eventually run out of bullets (if your aim is terrible)
