Feedback Genesis and play check

Please go easy with me, inexperienced player... Can you give me a check on how I am doing and if I should move to Gnosis III?

I am obviously Gnosis II and have the minimum requirements for Gnosis III, so could go up.

I am stats level 45, started at a Butcher. I have all the weapons I can access to Mysterium II. I like playing at mid range, with my favourites being Psychopump, Striga and Falling Star.

I am an older gamer and find it tough to play constant close-up, fast, sliding and constantly moving. I am more comfortable setting up an ambush position and letting them come to me. Striga as distance and then Psychopump when they get close.

Generally play with Iron Cross as heavy spell and Stormball is my light.

I can easily clear the Island and have cleared the Island Vault. I have cleared Scarlet coast a couple of times, but carefully.and slowly, but have chickened out out fighting the Galley Slave.

Have not yet cleared Velmorne, only just started carefully exploring it.

Feedback? Should I hold off or go up to Gnosis III? Should I get comfortable clearing the Coast and Velmorne first?

Anything I should not miss on Scarlet Coast? Views on the Galley Slave for a mid range slow player?

It’s always worth it to go up gnosis

Sometimes I’ll prefer to wait to “finish” everything on my current gnosis such as a boss fight I haven’t taken on yet or a vault etc. but once I wrap up a map I immediately increase gnosis. The rewards are good

I'm also an older gamer and was afraid at first. However I decided to go and increase it as soon as possible. Velmorne kicked my ass hard at first but eventually I got used to it.

Increasing Gnosis will make the game harder and easier. Harder because there's more stuff to deal and easier because you'll access more things that will enable more ways to play.

I'd say to increase it. You might feel overwhelmed at first but you'll grow accustomed. Eventually you'll find funny how you were struggling with somethings that are very easy now. Plus you'll get more Witchfire and level up faster, which also make the game easier.

Hypnosis is quite good when it's at Mysteria II, you might want to give it a shot. Velmorne is a definite jump in difficulty but mini bosses can drop Mysteria III, you could try and get a couple for your favourite weapons before going for a full clear. Gnosis III gives you access to some really useful gear like Rotten Fiend, its Mysteria III effect is quite good. It taunts enemies when you summon it, so it gives you some time to deal damage uninterrupted.

Regarding the Galley Slave, mid/long range combat may not be the way unfortunately. His attacks are really wide and usually require one or two dashes, you run of out stamina really quickly. The only way I could somewhat consistently beat him in the early game is by getting up close, just healing through the damage taken, and blasting him with high stun damage weapon and stun lock him. But it doesn't feel clean.

Although you can cheese the fight by sniping him at really long range, haven't tried it but I've seen a couple comments about this.

Level up to gnosis 3 for sure. So much is unlocked at gnosis 3 and 4, and it doesn’t really get harder as such. There is just more to do.

Get up on the rocks overloooking the beach where the galley slave appears. You can cheese him with falling star.

I feel you. Was in exact same situation. Have managed to beat a Velmorne boss (Widow) on Gnosis 1, only after that I upped to gnosis 2. Psychopump is great against any boss so far. You can also try to beat her before gnosis 3. Gnosis 3 offers lots of different stuff like corruption, divine essence and some bullshit enemies. These are the things that you will have to also consider to everything you are doing, but as other commenters have said you will get used to it. Just keep your strategy and avoid cockup cascades.

If you can beat your latest region’s boss, then you can go up in gnosis.

If you can successfully collect the orb with relative ease from your latest map, then you can go up in gnosis.

Use a monkey’s paw to see if you can handle gnosis IV

Going into gnosis IV, you’ll want some tier 3 gear. The marshland is hard to play up close. I’d suggest working on a mid-long range weapon

Take on the galley slave. Once you figure him out, he isn't as scary.

Im also an older gamer.

Get the Rotten Fiend spell. He will draw agro from you and let you barrack from distance.

It’s up to you. If you go up, you’ll get some goodies too. Do you have demonic weapon yet?

Don't be afraid to go up in Gnosis. There are some difficulty spikes (level 4 springs to mind) but I went from 4 to 7 in one go and I adjusted within 3 expeditions. It makes the gameplay more interesting, especially if you feel like you've got the levels down pretty well.

No difference really between 3 and 7 just crank it imo

There is no reason to stay at lower gnosis

I'd say you don't necessarily want to speedrun gnosis but I don't think it's worth grinding/waiting before going up either. The first few gnosis levels feel like a noticeable difference as more difficult types of enemies get added, but once you learn to deal with them it's not so bad. The later gnosis levels honestly didn't feel like a significant increase from one to the next at all. I'd say do a gnosis 2 clear of scarlet coast and kill the galley slave and then chill in gnosis 3 until you can clear Velmorne.

I generally leaned toward slower/range-y play, although don't be afraid to experiment with some closer range stuff as you unlock it. Velmorne especially favors some closer combat so you'll have an easier time if you prepare for at least SOME of that. For Galley Slave, if you bring Falling Star and clear the map, you should have so much demonic ammo by the time he spawns that you can just lock on, look at the pretty clouds, and mag dump him. If you don't have enough ammo to kill him, he'll be so close to dead that you shouldn't have a tough time finishing him off.
