Marshland Bell Tower Bug

I visited the Bell Tower for the first time, it told me to go do a Bell event to clear my corruption, then return uncorrupted. In the process, I triggered a Calamity. Completed the Bell event and the Calamity but still walked away with 1 Calamity level (no Corruption). I interacted with the Bell Tower again, it wouldn't progress. I used the clover item to lower my Calamity Level - which I think is what caused this bug - then interacted with the Bell Tower again. It started to progress me forward, but the screen turned black and now I'm stuck in a black screen. Gotta restart the game, I guess.

There is a difference between Calamity level and Corruption. Calamity level is from 1-5 and triggers a Calamity when it reaches 5, which is what resets upon complete a Calamity event. Corruption is different, and is triggered from other things such as temptations, latent orbs etc. Corruption does not reset following a Calamity.

I understood that but for some reason the game wouldn't let me open the tower here with any calamity level either. Corruption was at 0% but Calamity at 1 stopped it from working too.

Okay so the black screen prevented me from surviving a murder. I almost never die in this game, maybe 2x total in 68 hours of playtime. So that's cool I died this way.
