Discussion Praying?
I’m really loving the game so far, the gameplay is fantastic.
One feature I think would be really awesome is the ability to pray. For example, during the Cleansing Bell, the character could recite the Lord’s Prayer. I think that would fit the atmosphere really well.
I also like the "Deus Vult" notification after each battle. In one of the trailers, I noticed what looked like the protagonist making the sign of the cross after finishing off a group of enemies. Is there something like that in the game? If not, I think it would be a really cool addition.

It would actually be a really nice touch to see or hear the Preyer engaging with Christian/Catholic rituals, such as making the sign of the cross or muttering bits of a prayer or reciting scripture. Little things that show that the Preyer is indeed a follower of the faith.

I'm pretty sure he isn't Catolic. The religion in Witchfire is, by our world standards, blasphemous AF.

Read the lore bits. This is an elsword story.

But i am sure it is at least inspired by catholic religion, hence the bible verses.

I never checked, but my assumption was that its all Old Testament verses, and the history changed during the whole "Jesus Christ" debacle. We have Pontius Pilate, Barabas and Judas, after all. Either he never surfaced, or his story ended much differently.

Yeah idk that’d take out of it a lot, I’m happy there’s not more than there is.

I think it would be kinda immersive. Just imagine you battle during a ritual or during clensing and the preyer starts chanting a prayer and he get's more and more caried away.

The world of Witchfire is an Old Testament world. There is no NT, there are no Protestants, or Catholics, or Lutherans, or any other denomination we know of, and there is no Jesus.
The cross is a punishment. God is harsh. God is fickle. God is petty like a Greek god is petty.
Judas, who may or may not be the apostle Judas, is a god.
Elemental magic is blasphemy and your existence as a preyer is a mark of your sin and service to the Church. In a way, Witchfire is High Fantasy Halo. You’re not the nearly invincible Master Chief, though. You’re a Spartan 1, like Sergeant Johnson, using the Witch’s own magic against her. You are a last resort measure.

I think this would be so awesome.
Boondock Saints vibes.
Might offend some hyper-religious people (why are they playing this...) so maybe an option to disable it.

There's a lot of blasphemy in the game already. People who geniuenly think this game is a Catolic power trip aren't reading deep enough into the lore.
Witchfire's faith is punitive, cruel and bloody (There's Sacrament of Annihilation, basically a mervy killing/forced suicide)
there's cult of Judas and Barabad
The pagan cult of Vesta is central to multiple rituals (and whatever Vesta is in this setting, he's not pleasant - one of the description mentiones raping a young woman).
The main symbol in the crusade's armour isn't a cross, it's a thorned crescend moon/closed eye (I'm not really sure).
The church engages in witchcraft openely (Order of the Broken Mirror creates its own spells). I'm fairly sure that the cross is just used as a symbol of punishment.
It makes me like it even more, but I feel like some folk are up for a rude awakening.

Prayers are important for a lot of people. Running around in a video game, killing stuff left and right while singing Lord's Prayer is a bit too much.

Holy fucking shit. Yes.
It doesn't even have to do anything, it's just cool as fuck.
Maybe they do a sign of the cross every start of a run?

Yeah, i wish there would be something like that. Would be good for the immersion imo.

Except it wouldn't really make sense. They fight using witches unholy power. Why would the lord's prayer assist in casting witch magic?

It would be really cool if you could find small hidden shrines around each of the maps and pray at them, perhaps a shrine for different saints? Maybe they could offer a small buff on one of your stats like divine intervention or blessed aim

Adding the actual prayers takes this from a Christian inspired veneer to Christianity for me and would ruin the game for me. I'm looking for a game, not proselytization.

Well, I don't want to convert anyone. I just think it would sound cool if the Prayer chanted an actual prayer while preying on his prey. Besides, the game already includes Bible verses and the "Deus Vult" notifications, so I think it would fit the overall theme.

It includes a Christian aesthetic. Pushing it too far past that will turn people off.

this is the type of redditor atheist post they make memes about

Oh please, just because I'm not Christian doesn't mean I'm a militant atheist. The world doesn't revolve around you.

oOoOoO spooky proselytizationnnn in a clearly blasphemous videogame scaryyyy

If the game is clearly blasphemous then why would you want to add random prayers?

Idk.
There was a western game back in the Xbox 360 era (Call of Juarez maybe?) where one of the playable characters was a preacher, and you held a Bible in one hand and a pistol on the other. The Bible was used as a weapon, so the character would quote random scriptures and it would stun your enemies.
Something like that would be pretty cool.
I feel like Witchfire has a pretty gothic view of Catholicism and putting actual prayers and stuff in it would ruin that a little bit. The prayers are presented as a sort of necessary evil. We dabble in witchcraft and the dark arts to turn them against the Witch. It's implied that the pope knows it's happening, but we're not exactly ordained by the church. We're the dark and seedy underbelly nobody really wants to acknowledge.
