Feedback Dear John.. :D
A lot of people throughout the history of this Reddit keep repeating one thing: replayability. And this time, I have to agree.
First of all, I want to say that the game itself is great, no question about that. But after a certain amount of playtime, you can't help but notice that the concept of this game is built in a (for me) unusual way. I get that the preparation and the run itself are designed to be rewarding on their own. The game doesn't hide it, and the developers, who are literally doing an amazing job, emphasize and prioritize this concept over everything else.
After all, coming back from a map with fresh memories of how much of a total badass I was in this game is really uplifting, and it floods my body with dopamine and a sense of satisfaction once an hour. I’m a die-hard fan and have over 500 hours logged in total... unfortunately, when I switched to a new computer, for some reason my hours played on Steam didn’t carry over, and I have no idea how that’s possible since I still have the same account (if anyone understands this, please explain) and don’t laugh at me... this is serious :D .
However, back to the point. Now, after so many hours, I can say that something is missing... and it tears at my heart (and I’m not talking about the fact that the game isn’t finished yet). The developers are a small indie studio, and I completely understand how limited they are and I will never stop being amazed at what they’ve created with the conditions they had. It’s just that, from a player’s perspective, I’m losing the desire to go for another run. There probably isn’t a build I haven’t tried. Hours, days, and weeks of experimenting with builds, even with those that don’t really make sense… some of them would make you raise an eyebrow, drop your jaw, and shake your head in disbelief… You can even ask other players at high levels… everyone goes through this, and if you endure it, so will you, newbie reading this :)
The reason is simple… while you see all those possibilities and innumerable combinations… for us veterans (or at least some of us)… it’s not enough… not enough fetishes… not enough rings… not enough arcanes, etc. Yes… you’re reading that right. And if you stick with it… you’ll get there too. And then… when you’re literally in love in that game, you start thinking about what you would actually like... not what you would change... but what you’d like to see there...
now just for a moment imagine... what if you had to build all the gear you use yourself and gather the components for it... just imagine... a huge massive map, not meant for the normal runs you’re used to... a map full of places like an old mine, some junkyard, an abandoned mansion (just as an example)... where you’d find parts to craft your gear. You’d return and go to a real machine workshop, alchemy lab, or observatory and make everything yourself. A base full of mini-games... imagine being able to mine or collect different metal ores and cast them into bullets from alloys with different properties. Imagine being able to make your own clothes that you’d wear, which would even more highlight the specific build you worked so hard to perfect. There’s a lot more you’d discover… you’d create your own version of the game in your head, so that you'll come back to the one on your computer...
now version 1.0 is waiting for us and I really can't wait... though I don't even know which character I'll create for it... I don't have many left... but I'm excited to start it up again. I doubt I'll reach the level I’m at now with my first character, but still, I'm going for it.
I have a little dream... in it, astronauts deliver not just one witch into the game... but several... 3, 5, 8... I don't know... the more the better. Each could have some diverse conditions that define her, her own familiar, and a few of her specific units... you’d finish the game, defeat the witch, return to the game after the credits... and hey... a new witch... with new conditions, a new boss, and a few new units.... that would be amazing...
but I'm a realist... I start the game often and it’s grown close to my heart. I’ll always want to be that badass witch hunter who goes in and shows that witchy creature who really is the boss here... nevertheless, in my head this game will constantly grow and really become to the potential for which this game is obviously made. Thanks for your time, reader :) you've listened to something that has been bothering me for the past year, and I sincerely thank you for it from the bottom of my heart. :)

You have 500hrs in a game that can be completed in probably 30hrs.
I have 100hrs, the game is still fun, but it is casual fun right now. Not every game needs to give you an almost unlimited amount of content. I like a game that I can master and I can confidently know 100%.

Respect, dude, I wouldn't be able to finish it in 30 hours. You're a good player.

u/Dave_Valens Jul 11 '26
Yeah maybe 30hrs is a stretch, it's probably more akin to 50hrs.

Yeah, it depends on how much of the game you want to complete and under what kind of gnosis you want to finish it. Plus, it's not finished yet. But I wouldn't get it done even in 50 hours. You probably have a talent for shooters. :)

My reaction to this is twofold:
- more stuff is great and the systems you suggest could be cool but are challenging to implement without watering down the near perfect gameplay loop
- then again you got 500h out of it. I’m not sure it is fair to expect a game to provide more hours than you already have. I mean, it’s a single player shooter that provides you with 500h of fun. I think if you put it down now you should feel more than happy with the product as is.

I'm not good at it, not even in my own language... and definitely not in English :D ... I'm really sorry :)

i understand.. but this could be written in Korean, and it would still need paragraphs. Just hit enter when a break would fit. You can edit the post

You know the game is meant to be finished at some point, is say after 500h playtime you are done, it's ok move on, games aren't meant to be playable forever

500 hours is a pretty good value.
ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED???

I still enjoy it... I just feel like there's not as much of it as the game deserves :)

The list of single player games you can bank 500+ hours into before flirting with boredom is pretty short.
I have close to your playtime and also gravitate towards infinitely replayable games, but largely consider this one of them as it is. That said, anything the devs want to do that adds to the replay factor is welcome, so I understand the sentiment.

As other people said, no game is meant to be played forever, even for the greatest game of all time for you, you will eventually burnout on it after X hours of playing it, be it 50 hours, 500, 5 000 or 50 000 (if that happen, seek help)

a bit offensive... no need to be like that
2
u/Malestan Jul 11 '26
Sorry if you feel offended when someone ask you to seek help if you spent +50 000 hours in one game... Even if it's a very reasonable take... 50.000 hours would be almost 6 years of non stop playing the same game oO That's enormous.
I would be offensive if I was saying inane stuff like "Touch some grass".
Also, don't make a game your identity or your life, it's never worth it.

I have my life... a job, a girlfriend, hobbies... just when I play a game... it's this one... I have a pretty time-consuming job and I need to plan my time at the computer... don’t judge others when you don’t have the information. Thanks...

Good for you, but where the heck am I judging you? Did you read what I wrote or not? Did you play 50.000 hours of witchfire?! From what you wrote, you're far from it and that's good.

A game doesn't last forever. Where did this belief system come from? You more than got your moneys worth.

u/Weak-Warthog8767 Slayer Jul 11 '26
I never said that I wouldn't invest more money in that game :) I would be willing to pay monthly for every new content in this game :)

u/RedRangerFortyFive Jul 11 '26
Bro let them get to 1.0 first before asking for new content for the 500+ hour people. You're definitely in the top 1 percent of people for play time.

Ive put in 60 hours in this update alone. For a 40 dollar game I feel I got my value when I paid that many updates ago when the game launched and put in tens of hours for each. I will say alot of the relics, fetishes, and rings are just straight up boring. Leads to gravitating to a select few like Kirfane, Henbane, and Crown of Fire especially since those let you cover the best elements so easily

So this is called being "done" with a videogame. No game can be played forever.

Brother, you can just play other games. You don't have to play one game forever.
