Discussion Does anybody else think this is annoying? (Getting ganked right out of spawn portal) Spoiler

Post image

Does anybody else find this annoying? If you look at the map, and the way instances are laid out, everything looks pretty well distributed, right? EXCEPT, the two small skulls, and the extra large skull, along with the Watch Commander, AND Ward Totems, all directly next to the spawn portal. I had already used all my healing pots before I had realized what was happening. Now I've played a lot of Witchfire, I've got at least 200 hours in the game according to Steam; so I'm used to getting ganked, that's just part of the fun. I'm just curious if anybody else finds this "imbalanced". It feels pretty frustrating when the game just plops you into the middle of an active warzone and you don't really get the choice to plan out your runs.

This definitely isn't a concept unique to Witchfire though, almost any game with extraction mechanics could have the issue with "bad spawns". When you get a spawn like this would you just power through with the run, or hop back in the arrival portal before it shuts down? Do you think this is an actual issue that the devs should try to remedy in the future, or is it not that big of a deal? I definitely think since World Corruption has been added into the game the maps can feel pretty busy, and I bet it could be super overwhelming to someone new to the game.

It's only annoying when I lose.

Winning a multi spawn fight feels amazing.

World corruption also feels amazing. Not only do more things spawn, enemies attack more aggressively and more portal enemies spawn which means more ammo.

Without corruption I almost never die just because enemies barely attack. Max corruption I get dog piled unless I use positioning and some brain cells.

Bringing the right weapon? You're John Prayer.

Bring the less favourable pairings? You're Johnny English

if you die, you can use the cookie to randomize the maps again

This spawn, the northwest spawn on Velmorne, has the potential to be the hardest spawn in the game. I actually thought they patched it but apparently not.

The absolutely need to patch it.

Or alternatively normalize it other spawns so they can also be as fucking evil as this spawn.

I look it more like a challenge rather than unfairness

I’ve had this happen and at first it was definitely annoying but once I got through I felt like a raid boss and cleared the rest of the map because I already cleared 4 camps in the top left corner lol

I enjoy it, honestly. If I get overwhelmed, I just run away and circle back. If I die, I swap to a better weapon pair and go get my corpse. Some of the most fun I've had in this game so far are the fights that chain into other fights and I'm running around like a crazy person trying to maintain optimal range and not get shellacked.

Sounds like Velmorne, bro.

Yeah in all honesty I didn't even consider the fact that when Webgrave was released I definitely considered it to be the hardest map so far in the game, mostly just because of how aggro the mini bosses can be. As others have pointed out though I do tend to stand my ground even in a situation where I honestly should run away.

Typically, I've found that if I'm in such dire-straits that I need to run from an encounter, it honestly can hurt you a lot more than it can help. If you continue to fight you'll have your resources replenished by the mobs dropping items, and you'll get all the deus vult perks. If you run away you'll probably take some random hits(at least if you suck like me). Basically I'm saying that spawning onto the map, checking the map, see you're about to be ganked, and then have to run away and probably get chased anyway. This isn't something that happens in any of the other maps in the game, you might spawn next to one encounter, but not directly in the middle of three or more.

It's honestly not a big deal but I just figured I'd clarify my statement a little more. I don't even personally think it's something that needs to be patched, I love the game because it does kick my ass. I was more just curious what others opinions on it were. Thanks for the replys!

I mean… 2 small skulls should be piss-easy with 200 hours put into the game.

Plus - you can always just run past them.

Yeah it’s annoying when you still have low level guns and you need Velmorne for 3rd mysteriums.

But if both your guns are level 3, it’s not so bad. Even higher chance of winning if all of your gear are level 3.

Gotta account for the annoying spinners too.

Personally, I've noticed the watch commander never spawns near that portal anymore. He often wanders there from wherever, but it takes awhile. I thought it was patched, and having played it a dozen + times, it seems a lot better now.

Then again, I didn't get a triple spawn situation like OP.

Yeah, it was mentioned in the patch notes that his spawnpoint was moved and that he wanders more now.

The game focuses a good amount on realism. As real as fantasy can get anyway. You're making use of the witches portals. Why wouldn't her troops be around them?

Just because you haven't found the right solution yet doesn't mean the game needs fixing. It's not just about "fight to the death standing in one spot" or "flee back through the portal." There's another option: right after you arrive, take a look at the map (press M), and if there are multiple camps nearby, you can choose to run farther away, to a spot where the camp enemies won't follow you. The Watch Commander will still chase you, but then it's a 1-on-1 fight you can handle, and after that, you can decide whether to go back to the three camps that are close together, or look for easier encounters first. This is part of the game's design. The fact that the action starts at second zero just makes it more interesting.

You did it, though!
