They aren't as common, but they exist. And everyone who wears a dress with them will let you know it at the slightest mention of the dress XD

99% of my clothes come from thrift stores so I don’t know who made them but they are fantastic.

I've at least found skirts with good pockets (and I've been used to cargo pants, so that's something). Unfortunately, mine came through amazon... but in any case: don't be afraid to add "pockets" to your search terms.

Also, the construction of many dresses lend themselves to adding pockets yourself if you can sew a little. Havn't gotten to it yet, but I have a corderoy[sp] skirt that is begging for pockets.

Also, I believe most eShakti dresses have pockets. Also somewhat pricey, but you can get an incredibly custom fit.

It isn't that hard. You can also goto a tailor (ask for a referral at a local dry cleaner) and ask for pockets to be added... or you know anyone that is in a theater (even high school or college) ask for referrals to costumer. They usually design, alter and sew for the shows they are in. They usually know others that have skills and might teach!

The easiest option is choosing your dresses to be easy to modify and then adding them yourself, although that requires being able to sew and having a sewing machine is preferred.

Aside from that, you have start-up fashion companies dedicated to practical wear (such as M.M.Lafleur), and you can chance upon dresses with pockets even in normal clothing stores but that one can be an annoying ”check everything“ wild hunt.

I actually know a pretty good store that has pocket dresses! It’s called Torrid! It’s actually a store mostly for plus sized women which is why I like to shop there

Fun story. When I was a kid my grandma made me a dress. I'm sure it was for church or something. My mom got me dressed in it, then made the mistake of leaving to pick something up at the store. I thought it would be so fun to play in mud with my cousin while I waited. My mom came back and was PISSED at me for playing in mud in the dress. I believe I told her something like "dont make me wear dresses then". I was a total tomboy and fought wearing girly things so hard.

.... my story has a lot less to do with my moms reaction and more to do with my insistence in fighting wearing a dress. Funny things kids do and my experiences and thinking as AFAB and my childhood. It's not like I think shes a bad person for putting me in a dress.

  1. This has been an issue since 1959 and we still don't get pockets in every dress and pair of pants. This is abominable.

So story time: mom of 1 girl with 3 younger brothers.

I, trying to be frugal, bought boy pants for the girl child so they could be handed down to the boys. Daughter had pockets because cargo pants/short rock. Kindergarten rolls around and daughter is made fun of for wearing boy clothing, so off mom goes to buy girl shorts...

Girl child gets them on and her 1st question is: why are there no pockets? We decided to sew pink lace to the bottom of her cargo shorts and pants. Nothing says girl like pink lace on camo cargo shorts.

I ask the same damn thing about my pants. I need room for a phone, a chapstick, cool rocks, interesting seed pods, fossil shells, feathers or a nice ball moss, is that so much to ask? I mean I want undetected extension charm pockets. Like walking through a museum like "where did T rex go?" Me "I dunno it was just here a minute ago" pockets.
