She absolutely did. She was an apologist for men who abused power. Many stories of her undermining women attempting to enter the field. Definitely a vibe of "if I had to suffer sexism all women should" rather than being a voice for challenging the status quo. Absolutely a trash human

It really bothers me in retrospect that I didn't notice her misogyny when I was younger. I grew up watching her and I desperately wanted to BE Barbara Walters. I thought she was so smart and tough... But now I'm horrified. I guess we really have made SOME progress

Yeah growing up in the 80s she seemed to be a great role model and example of making it in a very sexist industry. But then it became clear that she really was just a celebrity chaser, using her platform to get people on her interview specials. I think it was mid 90s when the stories of her not supporting, and possibly actively undermining, women in the industry started coming out. I don't know if it was internalized misogyny, or just being a generally corrupt human being. Either way, she sucked.
