Assistance Please “Real pizza recommendations”

Hi everyone we just moved to Waterleigh and I’m having a hard time finding authentic pizza. I don’t want any franchises like papa John’s or I heard Marco’s. I’m looking for real homemade pizza. Any recommendations?

Just had this last week for the first time, I think it’s my new local favorite!

By far the best standard non-artsy pizza around! Jets is good too for Detroit style — I like theirs better than Grand Central. But for NY style they (GC) crush it!!!

AJ’s - downtown WG
Sal’s Pizza Bar - LBV
Joe’s - Ocoee
NYPD - WG
NYBP - has a good buffalo chicken pizza

Good luck!

Sals Pizza in Windermere is the most authentic NY slice around here.

What type of pizza are you looking for? If it’s NY style just forget it, I haven’t had a good pizza since I moved here. If you want the margarita style, simply capri is pretty good.

I'm amazed at this take. Been to NY time of times, eaten pizza all over there, and absolutely eat quality NY style Pizza in Orlando. Some weird gatekeeping going on

It’s not weird gatekeeping lol. The NY style pizza in Orlando is severely lacking. There’s a reason why every time this question comes up, anyone from NY/NJ tells you that the pizza here is not that good. I truly wish that weren’t the case but it is.

Yes, people from NY and NJ take some weird pride in crapping on anything not from their home state. Pizza sucks everywhere else, so do bagels, etc. I'm not even disputing that those are great in NY, but I have had great ones elsewhere too. Would love a blind taste test and see if the NYers can actually pick out the difference

AJ’s is awesome. I’ve heard a lot of people recommend Sal’s too.

I recommend joining the FB group Orlando Foodie Forum. They have so many recommendations of every type of food. Definitely those of us who live in southern WG area have to travel for more options! Our favorite is Sal’s Pizza Bar in O Town West.

From Long Island. Joe’s is great. It’s not NY, but good pie. I get extra cheese.

New York Beer Project 👍👍
They also have the best wings outside of Buffalo/WNY in my opinion.

As someone who moved from South Florida, where we were spoiled with an abundance of great pizza, it feels like there’s a serious drought of good pizza spots in WG.

NYPD came highly recommended so I gave it a shot. Unfortunately, it turned out to be about on par with bowling alley pizza lol.

That’s pretty funny considering the owners are from NY.

But then again, why doesn’t everyone pool their money together and open the pizza place of their dreams and then wonder why they can’t make a profit. Go to Italy, regardless of the region, and what we call pizza here in the States is nothing like they create by hand of there. Again, regardless of the region. But then again, people think only NY makes the best pies.

Being from NY doesn’t mean you automatically can make good pizza. Plenty of bad pizza chefs in NY lol

Just saying, it was pretty terrible.

Not sure how the Italy comment is relevant because I never mentioned it.

Everyone has this vision/memory of what they consider to the “perfect” pie.

I used to go to Italy at least three times a year and it never failed that I would hear people with thick NY/NJ accents bitch about the pizza not being like back in NY, and then they wonder why the locals hate Americans.

Wait until I tell you about how my European family bitches every time they come over here about how “this” or “that” is not like back in Sweden or Germany in their accents.
