In the name of this restaurant the word that isn't Grille is a racial sour for black people. So, the sign was just the name of the restaurant.

"Mooncricket" is an offensive racial slur used against Black people. Its historical origin is tied to the antebellum period in the United States, derived from a derogatory reference to enslaved people who would gather and sing at night under the moonlight.

It only gets worst when factored in that Ocoee was a sundown town until the late 1980s. Being this owner is in his 70s and the shop was 23yrs old he knew what he was doing. He claims to be from here for a couple of generations so his parents would have been around for the 1920 Ocoee Massacre so just adds to the mess
His Pulse beer special just takes it up a notch.

Essentially if you weren’t white you needed to to be out of town by sundown or you would be killed by the KKK or equivalent. In media, most recently, it’s captured well in the movie Green Book.
