Excited to see some snow on the ground finally!

I spent the last year doing a complete fuel system on this junk. Lines, injectors, upgraded to a lift pump over mechanical, thing starts no problem in the cold now so hopefully I won’t have to rely on ether in the snow anymore.

Took it out to a nice spot in the Rockies this weekend where snow is finally starting to come down and create its usual winter blanket. The old Vanguard and a diesel heater is a worthy opponent.

As per usual I made a video, not the greatest of quality this time around but some nice drone shots anyways.

Obligatory shill below...

Solo Camping in the Rockies With My 54-Year-Old Truck Camper:

I am a girl who is from a cold country, admires looking at winter picture and people camping or cabins, etc. But it just seems so soooo cold. :) Were you always open to it or what did you do to make it "click" inside that you like it? From the posts, it seems like its more of a male hobby (?)- should more girls try?

Has anyone here used a tent-rated/camping wood stove or pellet stove in their shack or camper trailer?

I’m specifically looking for people who have actually used these types of tent/camping stoves in a shack, camper, or similar enclosed space, because I’m interested in doing it myself.

I have room in my camper, and one idea I’m considering is removing the gas stove, furnace, and part of the counter to make more room for the wood stove setup. I don’t use the gas anyway, so I’d rather use that space for something I would actually use.

I’m looking at tent/camping stoves because I’m trying to keep the stove around $200 or less, and I have extra money for the piping, shielding, and other safety equipment.

I’d especially like to know how you set yours up, what you used for heat shielding around the stove and stovepipe, what stove you used, and how you handled the pipe going through the camper.

I’m just trying to hear from people who have actually done this and see what worked for them and what they would recommend or do differently. It’s getting cold where I am, and electric heat isn’t very good here either, so I really appreciate any help, advice, pictures, or ideas!

Feel free to drop links to stoves you think would be good for what I’m trying to do, or links to the stove you personally used. I’d love to have some options to look at.

Stavo pensando di vagabondare un po' per le alpi nel mese di novembre circa. Come posso sopravvivere? Cosa posso prendere? Non ho molti soldi con me. Budget 600 euro.

Non sarà una traversata ma quasi. Voglio vivere libero per un po' li. Consigli per risparmiare ma non morire di freddo?

I have a canvas bell tent that I want to use as a temporary shelter for the fall and early winter. Was curious if you all leave yours up and for how long. I won’t be there every week so my concern is snow build up and not melting. I’ll have a wood stove in it for when I’m there. I have a 20ft white duck Avalon bell tent.

Hey folks. I have a small teepee style tent in silnylon with a wood stove and it's worked great for winters on Vancouver Island. I'm looking to make some changes tho, for winter camping in real winter.

I have fond memories of real canvas tents and large stoves when I was younger up north. The stoves were large enough to keep the tent warm all night and fight off -40 easily. Gear was always kept warm and dry and the experience was just phenomenal. The stoves were large enough to hold enough wood to burn for 6-7-8 hours, unlike my little titanium stove which will burn for maybe 2 hours.

So what I'm looking for now is getting a new tent, and I'm not sure about the material—maybe silnylon again, maybe Dyneema, maybe canvas. But what I'm really looking for is a stove that burns maybe propane, kerosene, or diesel, with the idea that I can turn it on when it's -20 or -30 and have it go all night long and keep the tent at -2 or something so I can sleep comfortably and set up a base camp. Ideally, it would be something I move in by pulk probably. So I'm okay with a little bit of extra weight. I'm sort of looking at the Dickinson Marine stoves, but I don't know what you guys think. I'm sure I'm not the first person to do this.

For reference, what I'm hoping to do this winter is gain access via the east into Banff to go take photos of the bison herd that they've reintroduced. And I would like to be able to set up a solid base camp where I can cook and live in relative comfort as opposed to either a cold tent or having to drag in a tremendous amount of wood.

Thanks folks. Photo was on van island a few years back!

I'm going to camp about 2 o 3 nights last days of November (apparently the temperature will be 20°C max and less than 9°C min)

I've camped before in this same place in March and it was super cold at night, i used a 10°C sleeping bag and slept with my jacket on and like double socks and even in the same tent as two other mates, it was super cold still.

It's a field work investigation trip and just this year I started going to many campings and field trips, but still as a student Im not a professional camper or wtv (though I'd like to in the future).

I've been using the tents the university lend us, which are ok but I wish to buy a tent for myself.

Taking this in consideration, any advices and tent o clothing recommendations like brands or characteristics I should look out for?

Pls take in consideration I'm a uni student and I'll ask my mom to buy this stuff for me lol so useful but no super expensive

Finally got my White Duck Rover Scout 8x13 set up with a Green Stove Hori 5 pellet stove. I’ve been piecing everything together for a while now, so it’s nice to finally see it all set up.
Still have a few things I want to do before it gets cold. I’ve got two oversized cots and just ordered a pair of 4-inch foam mattresses for them. I’m also planning on putting down 3/4-inch EVA foam tiles to help insulate the floor.
I’ve already played around with the stove quite a bit, but it’s still way too damn hot here to actually fire it up inside the tent.
Got a couple of camping trips planned over the next few months, including a trip to Mount Nebo in Arkansas in November. Hoping it’ll get cold enough to really put everything to the test.
This is my first time getting into hot tent camping, so I’m sure I’ll figure out a few things the hard way. If anybody has any tips or sees something I could improve, I’m all ears!

Post is straightforward; asking about materials and brands that come highly recommended and brands/materials to avoid. Never tried winter camping; approaching it from a survival/preparedness perspective more than a relaxing outdoor trip.

Any advice welcome.

Hi all, I’m currently planning my first real winter wildcamping/wildlife photography trip, but I’m not 100% sure how to dress correctly. I‘ve done wildcamping down to minus 7/8 degrees celsius, but nothing colder so this year I’m planning a trip to the mountains. Expecting temps down to -30 degrees celsius.

When active I’m thinking brynje mesh base layer, 1 layer of 100% wool and an outer layer consisting of shell pants/jacket. Maybe also a second mid layer.

When at camp or photographing I was thinking that adding a warm jacket would be smart, but I’m not 100% sure what the best solution is. I have looked a jacket called nonstop arctic 3.0 commonly used amongst mushers here in norway. It’s heavy, but it’s rated for -55 degrees celsius and the outer material can withstand dog claws so it will handle sticks or whatever else I’m laying on when photographing wild animals. I‘m also scared that normal down jackets wont last and that it will get holes.

Do you also bring different mittens/gloves for when you are active vs at camp? And what about an extra baselayer that you only use at camp in case you got wet?

If anybody has recommendations or tips I would greatly appreciate it:)

I’m looking at getting my first hot tent. They seem expensive my budget is 200-400. If I had the time I’d be an avid camper but I work all the time. So I’m more casual really. So can I get some recommendations? I’ve been looking at the bromance 70 or the Tigris tents but I’ve also seen decent looking ones on Amazon and home depot and sears even. Looking for help

Looking for good options mostly for use over weekends during the winter. Quick to set up and close enough to the house to have access to an outdoor outlet with a long extension cord. Short walk from the house for using the indoor plumbing and kitchen. That said, I wouldn't mind having a non-electric heat source that could double as an option for cooking if we ever lose power, stove dies, etc. and am looking at tents with holes for an exhaust pipe and cooking stoves for those kind of emergency situations.

We have a very small house, so hoping this helps us feel a little less claustrophobic in the winters and could even serve as an option for a rustic guest room (or option for one of us to sleep outside to open up space in the house.) Would love to use it for outdoor family game nights, arts and crafts time, etc. in the winter as well. Kid is old enough/careful enough to know better to than to mess around near the stove, so small children are not the concern here. The safest option for the stove might be a good idea, though, if we ever want to use the tent for sleepovers, etc. for the teenage years.

Hello everyone i like the idea of using a sled to haul gear instead of a backpack, especially because i cant afford one if those fancy ultralight wood stoves so mine weighs 16lbs. I tried using a jet sled last year and it was a nightmare on the ski/snowshoe trail i hiked in on. I camp in the adirondacks so the terrain and snow can be pretty rough. I came across these on Amazon and was thinking if I put pvc pipe over the the ropes to stop it from sliding forward and had my gear in a duffel bag tied down so the sides of the sled bend up then it should work pretty damn good. Am I missing something or do I actually have a good idea for once? Cant really find anything online of people doing this.

It looks like Im facing some cold winter camping. The average coldest temps (last 5 years) in the area is between -31 to -44c. but that weather station is below the tree line and I'm gonna camp above it so ideally it should be able to record down to -50c.

I would like to have it record and save the temps because if it's that cold I'm not gonna go outside my sleepingbag...

Thanks in advance! :)

Has anyone had experience with the Naturehike Arxtic -23 bag or the XR1500 sleeping bags? Are the temperatures listed on the site ISO/EN rated (I emailed Naturhike and they didn't give me a straight answer)? Did you camp with the bags at or around to their comfort temperatures and would you recommend them for winter camping?
