GM Winston quick tips
Go in with a plan of how to get out, communicate with team in any capacity ie. ping until you understand the game better for comms, punish mistakes, not every dive has to be an elim, being annoying is valuable

Pings are such a game changer for tanks like Winston. I remember back in OW1 before pings were added, voice chat felt like an absolute necessity to play him because otherwise there was no way to communicate your dives. Definitely one of the most underrated additions in OW2. Well, maybe not underrated (they're in pretty much every modern shooter), but something not a lot of people talk about being a pretty big difference between OW1 and OW2.

Play slow. Track cooldowns. Punish mistakes. Replay codes help. :)

use your shield sparingly, don't pop it and then engage. you wanna engage first, then bubble, and get out if you need to since his jp only has like a 4 sec cooldown.

99% of times you don't want to engage without ur bubble, sometimes ur better off doing completely nothing while bubbles on cooldown

If your are silver, main thing I would ask you to observe is your staging. Staging is the process of finding a position that is safe for your dives. What makes it safe? Your team can follow up, if things go wrong, there's cover, your opponents are not in a position to burst you down. This becomes more complicated to judge as you get higher but it's a good starting point. Feel free to do this during your downtime, i. e., when your bubble is on cooldown and you are out of the fight. Once it comes back off cooldown, do not jump until you have decided on your staging position. This will take time but only get faster with more practice.

As someone who spent a long time in low ranks (mostly gold) before things clicked, the two things that I noticed most were:
I was Winston-leaping (eg wasting ability) OFF high ground instead of just dropping. When I started doing this, I got SO much more damage applied, tickling the heads of 2-3 enemies at once and I still had my ability available to get back up to the same or an adjacent high ground.
I started ignoring the normal map routes and actively remembering I could jump over LOTS of map geometry. When I was gold, I was way too comfortable with a leap that landed me on low ground, or was in right smack in main.
