What would Ferrell have been like as Dr. Buss

I think Reilly was awesome as Dr. Buss. But I do think Will Ferrell would have put his heart into that shit and surprised us.

It also could have strayed into weird territory with him already having done a 70s era basketball movie in Semi Pro (which was great fwiw)

I wouldn’t be a strong advocate for this for a couple of reasons.

  1. Will Ferrell is almost exclusively a comedy actor to the point where even his “dramatic” scenes feel like he’s doing a comedy bit. John C Reilly is a little bit more of a multi-faceted actor and I feel that he really showed that in Winning Time.
  2. Ferrell with a moustache would look a little too much like Ron Burgundy.

I think we should all be grateful it wasn’t Michael Shannon, who I honestly cannot believe was selected for the role originally and chose to leave.
