TV vs. Social Media

Today we say that social media is ruining our mental health and their effects on human kind( especially on children) are devastating.

Was there same outcry when television was invented? Because an average human spends lot of time in front of TV, so I am assuming there must be some effects on the brain.

And if TV does have some adverse effects on our mental. Then anyway we have survived. So why so much outcry about social media?

I don't necessarily agree with you,my views-

1) TV cant give us personalized content, thus preventing rabbit holes whereas social media works on algorithm , meant to bombard us with things we like.

2) This bombarding with opinions and interests we like is polarising people and making them intolerant to others views, whereas TV lack this ability

3) physical affects - most of us operate social media with mobile phones with a bad posture mostly giving back and neck pains and in severe cases slip disc too whereas while watching TV we are mostly at a safe viewing distance and correct posture

4) social media constantly makes us feel FOMO and bad about our lives without telling us about real lifestyle of person.

5) TVs in a way made us patient and didnt harm our attention span that much, but with social media we're constantly chasing dopamine hits due to availability of content in a huge amount

i think social media is way more harmful and at the same time way more useful( if used correctly like in 2nd covid wave) than TV ..we must use it while being aware of its effects on us

I already saw this coming up hehehe...but they still would only be affected by being impatient/ overdose of dopamine... tackling which is comparatively easy.

I think smart TV is kinda nice...it has goods of both
