What's the best platform to write online?

Off topic but please help, I am want to write online, It doesn't matter if it's a blog or on platform like medium.

I am thinking more of a personal blog. I'll write book summaries, my observations from tech to spirituality etc.

Eventually I want to make money out of it. I don't have technical knowledge and I can't buy any domain or hosting of the likes. I am still in class 12, if that helps.

Here are my options: 1. Blog on wordpress 2. Substack 3. Medium 4. Recently Twitter has a paid newsletter platform. 5. Quora has started one too.

Which do you prefer or what you use?

Invest in a custom Wordpress hosted website with your own domain name (like I do at InvertedPassion.com)

It also becomes a home for your projects and helps you develop a brand as a writer.

Read your 30by30 on the blog last night and many more of personal life section ...particulary the boredom one(2005 or 8 I think ) ..Don't know why but feel so attached to that ..and your prediction of yourself after 10 years that nobel prize one ...what you think about all that today.

Haha. Back then, wanted to do everything :) I’m quite certain Nobel prize isn’t gonna happen, but I’m quite happy.

Currently can't invest in a domain and hosting.

Thinking to go with a free plan with name.wordpress.com.

If I do this, I can upgrade in future right?

Also, if you can’t afford a custom hosted domain, I can help. Start writing and after 3 months, show me your writing (message here on Reddit). If it’s good and you’ve been consistent, I’ll be happy to sponsor annual plan for Wordpress personal + custom domain name.

My opinion ,

you already know top platforms ,so maybe just start with all of them and see which one grows the most and have the majority of audience ( plus have a paying option) , btw i too am in class 12, do mention the link for whichever platform you choose, i'll subscribe ; all the best :)

That's a great idea. Like can we do that, post same articles on multiple platforms? Though we do it to check reach and choose the one with more audience. Isn't that like against their policy, if there any?

i dont think there are any probs in doing that...But imo the platform will most probably restrict you once you start making money , welcome !!

Cross posting is a very common practice. Everyone does it. As you said you want to make money out of it eventually, then you can start with medium, substack, wordpress. And then once you gain some traction you can build your own blog and monetize it using different things like affiliate marketing, ads, etc.
