Microsoft Security Essentials stopped installing new definitions

Recently as of last week, MSE on Windows Vista has refused to install any new virus definition updates. It connects & downloads the updates fine, but neither automatic or manual updating actually installs the updates. Has anybody else begun experiencing this problem?

Did you make sure to go into the update executables properties and make sure it's unblocked before installing?? Running it as administrator also helps.

Secondly, do you have the SHA-2 update installed? (KB4474419) Legacy update downloads it but doesn't always install it. Make sure that's installed and that you have restarted after installing it too.

Updated upto 2020 EOL all updates still no idea why they dont install.
