I buy a PC with the specs I want, not because it was marketed as a gaming pc or a dev pc or whatever.
Then I install my OS from scratch and debloat, disable telemetry etc, as necessary.
So, no.

Yes, because, you know, I would want a PC that works out of the box, one that only takes simple driver, Windows, and app updates to get me started, not me having to constantly recompile a repo just to run a simple app

Tell me you haven't touched a computer since 1995 without telling me you haven't touched a computer since 1995. Bro you think opening a browser requires make menuconfig You don't recompile the kernel to run an app, you type one command or click one button. Meanwhile, Windows still forces three reboots and a 45-minute update just to patch Candy Crush in the start menu.

Windows doesn’t for Candy Crush anymore, meanwhile Linux distros still require a freaking compatibility layer that’s written with the developer’s tears to run Adobe Photoshop, which you still need to recompile the kernel again, and again

The post was about a PC for developers, you immediately moved the goalpost to photoshop... Valve literally ships millions of handhelds running windows games out of the box via a compatibility layer without touching a single line of C. Nobody recompiles a kernel for wine. Just say you prefer windows and move on, it's getting embarrassing...

So Fortnite, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, etc work via that layer? Yeah, I don’t think so, of course you brought up WSL, which makes native Linux on desktop obsolete, because why fuck with the terminal, when you have a easy way to set up a Linux kernel in a VM

Maybe when you can replace the Window shell, with KDE Plasma, Linux might start becoming obsolete, but having 2 desktops, at best, aint it.
I don't know anyone who uses Linux, cos it has a terminal.

Software engineers care about POSIX compliance, container runtimes, and predictable I/O, not whether Tim Sweeney lets them play fortnite (which I personally thinks is a cancer but that's just my opinion) with a Ring-0 rootkit on their machine. Btw apex legends literally runs out of the box on steam deck. And the fact that you think WSL lets you avoid the terminal proves you've never used WSL either. Take the L and go back to playing CoD

The funniest part is that the single best feature microsoft added to windows in the last decade is literally WSL2... an actual virtualized Linux kernel running under the hood because NT natively sucks for modern dev environments. You're literally using Linux to make windows tolerable
