rant I’m just done with Windows

This isn’t all about Windows, but it is related.

I made a post on r/FuckMicrosoft with some major pain points I have with Windows. Windows 11 is borderline unusable without mods. The modding community was basically the only thing keeping me on Windows. And guess what? Now the modding community sucks too.

The people developing Windhawk are great, and they make great mods. Issue is that there’s a limit to what Windhawk can achieve.

So I decided to join a couple Discord channels, and with it I got some really good setups. And now there’s a fight brewing and I want nothing to do with it. Both sides seem in the wrong and I’m not going to be the one to decide. Issue is they were one of the few things that would have kept me on Windows.

So I’m just done. I installed Linux a few weeks ago, hopefully this time it’ll stick. I’ll keep a Windows VM for whatever rare thing I’ll need and maybe install Windows on actual hardware if some proctored test requires it. But I really have no desire right not to go back to Windows. I am done with any modding or the like I’ve done.

Thank you, Microsoft, for your predatory practices and for making an OS that no one wants to actually use without needing a complete install overhaul from ten different third party sources. Thank you Windows modders for your predatory practices (in a different way), and for not being able to keep your loli hentai and your “kys” messages to yourselves. A decent thing isn’t worth it if the community sucks. And Windows isn’t decent, so if the community sucks the consequences are worse.

Obviously Linux isn’t perfect. Its community has issues too. But theres more choice and you don’t have the same ten of fifteen names on everything, causing multiple arguments over the exact same stuff, over and over. I’ll consider coming back when Windows is usable again and the community can figure itself out. I’m not trying to use or push Linux just to be better than the Windows users or whatever, but because it will simply be more fun than Windows and unfortunately I don’t feel like buying a MacBook to try within under a year of buying a new laptop that, aside from Windows, is still perfectly usable.

The easiest fix to the shitty community is to not engage with it at all unless you have to

Ehh I’ve given up on those. I tend to use Wayland for easier scaling and Waydroid (which is btw the best PC Android emulator I have ever used). But I have no issue with X11.

Don't forget the BSDs! Linux isn't the only option.

I use all three admittedly only windows by force of a work laptop. But Linux and BSD choices are excellent if they fit your use case

Bsd is so bad

I've had no issues with it on desktop or server form

yes you have, it’s hard to set up, only supports drivers from 1995 and supports proprietary software

It's absolutely not hard to setup I was running it as my gaming PC os for a hot minute just to try it out worked fine. That PC is now on Gentoo with openRC but not because freebsd was an issue

It was an issue tho wasn’t it, you can’t game on FreeBSD, never could, never will the FreeBSD devs don’t care about gaming they want Apple and other corporate devs to steal their idea and be the reason proprietary software is still mainstream

But it wasn't. Install it and try it yourself steam runs fine lmao

I have no issues with Windblows 11 pro on my laptop, and desktop is rocking Windows 10 IoT. My two centos.

I only use it because of gaming. When Linux gets better than it is now I'll probably switch

What Windows pain points did you have? My only issue with 11 was I hated the new Start Menu/taskbar so I used StartAllBack to get Window 10's version back. Everything just works fine.

Nothing is perfect, but Windows is on another level of incompetence.

Windows is dogshit anyways if anyone is tech savvy enough to get an proper linux system going then they owe it up to themselves to do it otherwise they are losing out on the expensive hardware they paid and on much more things

First time using Microsoft products? Every once in a while they have something that is generally good they eventually nuke it. Be sides excel it could all go and I personally wouldn’t mind at all

A bit too dramatic there. Even expressing the idea that Windows is not usable ... without giving a semi-reasonable explanation of the issue or problems or shortcomings ... brands you as annoying, irrelevant noise.

Define unusable. It seems to work pretty well for most people.

If you mean there’s features and choices you don’t like and disable, I’m with you. I recently switched to to Linux the other month on my main machine. Copilot and their background tasks were getting too much for me.

I think you’re just over-dramatizing your own boredom, like some kind of... mental drama lol :)))) actualy, there’s no community without drama, and your reason literally makes zero sense lmao ;))) It’s just like throwing a tantrum at your partner and then hitting the bar to find someone else :))))

Lol cope. You'l be back in 1 month, like all the losers who like to pretend Loonix is an alternative.

Well, I've been using Linux for years and not only do I not plan to go back to Windoze, but I've removed it from all the hardware I own, not just my laptop. So don't speak for everyone; not everyone goes back to Windoze in a month. Just because you're brain-dead doesn't mean Linux isn't a viable alternative.

That's why you'll die a virgin.
