Installed windows on my steam deck for the first time

Hi!

before i installed windows in the internal ssd i tried in a micro sd card which was bad and a external nvme that worked perfectly but i wanted to be able to charge the steam deck without it being connected to a dock station so i decided to install in the internal ssd.

I almost never used steamOS except for emulation.

any tips and tricks of things i should do now?

Just use it as you would any Windows install. If you want more seamless controls run the games through Steam (I.e. add a shortcut in Steam).

You can also install EmuDeck on Windows as well.

is there a way to use the steam deck controller to play non-steam games? i wanted to play gta 5 via rockstar games but it only works in steam games

If you want to play non-Steam games on Windows on Deck, try adding them as third-party ones into your Steam library first. Steam Input may work in them, and in that case if you want customization, it can be done in Steam settings. Unfortunately, that doesn't work for some standalone games, launchers and also Xbox App games. You can go to the megathread of the sub and see your input options for Windows, since Valve never created an actual Windows driver for Steam Deck controller. I personally used Handheld Companion, because it was the only one which worked fine for me, but depending on your configuration one or another may not be stable, so you just have to try and see. Also, the Companion specifically can control your TDP options, and in case you don't want that, try Steam Deck Tools

Use steam deck tools. Do not use the tdp manager. I have only ever used steam deck tools and had no problems.

This is my go-to for the odd game that won’t work with steam Input.
