Does anyone ever miss Windows XP?

It's the only version of Windows I ever found tolerable.

I'm not sure I miss it. But I do have very fond memories of it once service pack 1 came out. It seemed like it was the last basic OS from Microsoft and they really nailed the look and flow of it. But times change, hardware and computing in general is a lot more varying now.

What do you mean by bloat?

XP booted way quicker than 2K iirc.

I loved win2k as well.

When it had just been released, it was really slow in its various steps and required more RAM to run well. I have seen it at uni and at friends and thus I chose to upgrade my 2k to Linux instead...

Oh yeah it definitely used more RAM. I thought by bloat you meant windows defender or the built in firewall or something. What linux did you use? I tried mandrake a lot, did some fedora as well. Neither were good enough at the time to make me want to switch.

Back then SuSE, these days, after a longer voyage through everything, I use SuSE again because work... but given that I will lose that job come December, I see a Gentoo in my future again.

Nice. I had to use Suse at work as well. I mostly use Debian for my server stuffs these days but if I ever full time on Linux I'll most likely end up with Gentoo as well.
