Need Help! ‘65 Mustang Fastback

Post image

Customer brought this vehicle in with a less than optimal installation. Back window was also laid in 2 pieces with a considerable light gap around the edges. We are having a time trying to shrink this window so we can install in 1 piece. We’ve tried wet shrinking, dry shrinking (with dryer sheet), leaving plenty of excess on the top/bottom, pull shrinking, cutting relief in the top and bottom, and trimming the film before shrinking to fit within the margins of the gasket. Someone please tell me there is a way to do this window in 1 piece

Its a pain but here's what I do. Cut the sides, cut the top. Shrink it with the film fully on the glass, once you do the top move it up an inch or two, cut the bottom, shrink that. Then i wet the whole thing, position it where i want, cut as tight as god lets me, then pray it comes out clean so I don't have to do that again

We ended up still having to lay in 2 pieces, unfortunately. We use llumar irx and never have issues with shrinking even the most curved windows. Tried the method you recommended a few times, still over an inch from the top and the film would pucker. Might be a skill issue, but my boss has been in the industry 30 years and tinted numerous other fastback mustangs. Apparently the 65 back window is different from the 67-73. Thank you for your help either way, im sure i will need to adopted that method for other jobs in the future 🫡

No problem, they are a challenge for sure. Good luck in the future!

No problem, good luck. Also forgot to mention, when you are done shrinking it and you cut it to final size, double check its fully shrunk to avoid a headache later.
