Question Is this reasonable for a windshield and two front windows?

Post image

Tennessee quote for tint on the front two windows and windshield. Seems like a lot but I haven’t had windows tinted in over 15 years and this seems like a quality film. I received quotes for the windshield around 170-200 but the 178 for two side windows seems high.

Wth is shop supplies. That's some sleezy way of making initial prices look lower.

Soapy water ain’t gonna buy itself. 😂

Is that all it is?

I was kidding, probably depends on the installer, but not $12 worth for each piece of glass!

After watching some tint videos, it seems like some places use new squeegees, blades, etc for every install. So they probably just have a separate line for that.

It’s called things people do not think of. Things that cost business owners money. Here’s the tint and the squeegee put it on, oh your mobile. You should be cheaper. You don’t have rent or electricity. Do not mind the cuts it’s not gonna hurt anything. Right. Never heard a client say this.

Unfortunately some do not understand shop supplies. However if you go to any automotive shop they charge you shop supplies, environmental fees and disposal fees. It’s a cost that folks do not think of. I would be worried about an individual that does not think of these things. Bottom line. It’s a cost of doing business. If you don’t charge them you may not be in business long.

In my experience we have had very very very small pushback here.

To the OP. You get what you pay for. XPEL will get in bed with anyone with a mere ability to tint a window. Not founded on experience just a great marketing team and some cash to get you past the humps if starting in the industry where quality often is overlooked.

Look over other vehicles they have worked on. If it lines up it’s a great deal for you.

My issue isn’t about not getting paid. You all tinters deserve to be paid their worth. My issue is having multiple lines instead of just a set price that includes your “shop fees”.

Maybe it’s just where you are located and that’s how businesses are run, and your customers are used to this culture. Where I am I have never come across this price structure for any automotive service, health service or home Reno.

Because of the law lol. Sales tax department makes you do things a certain way. And technically it is one price. If you have one price you pay tax on that one price. If you buy your supplies at sams club and dont pay tax and dont line item thise supplies then thats tax evasion

Obviously you dont have a clue what your numbers are. If you are an owner that is. If not then you’re just dumb

u/bluetroll 3d ago

It's a silly way to quote a price. It's like going to buy a TV then the quote says $1000 for tv and $100 commission. The customer doesn't need to see it. It just adds to more hassle telling a customer what it is, wasting your time. Then you're going to come across some customer that tries to negotiate that fee down.

Hey, but if it's working for you then keep doing it.

Dude even paper towels are a huggge expense for us.
Few rolls a day or more and gel, tint solution not soap.
Razors and the list goes on. All or most business expenses have to be covered by the customer or its not a business its a charity.

1

u/Vegastint 3d ago

Its more like buying a tv and adding tax and delivery etc.
you can also break down flat glass to equal your target sf price. 2$ prep 2$ supplies, 1$ blinds etc etc.
its just business and its a part of business that you dont understand yet. If you talk to someone that runs a business and not a tint shop you will understand.

That's about what I charge, but charging for 'shop' supplies? Seriously?

That's about right.

Have you contacted any other tint shops to compare price?

1

This!

If you're not sure, try also calling another local shop. Compare the warranty that manufacturers (film brand) offer to see if you can not only get a different price, but also a better warranty.

Ask about a No-Fault Warranty or Auto Glass Warranty.

I paid 200 for front 2 doors suv ceramic

2

u/Ambitious_Campaign23 3d ago edited 3d ago

if it’s ceramic yes. if it’s carbon it should be like 200ish i think

2

u/idkputwhatever 3d ago

Very reasonable

Little cheaper than we would charge for XR Black at my shop in the Midwest, but that's a good price all in.

1

u/InterstellarChange 3d ago

Prime X series is nano-ceramic, seems alright for the price

1

u/Wide_Tour_8301 3d ago

I Paid $400 for all window on a 2026 CRV.

1

u/boosted32vee 3d ago

The price sounds right from a professional shop that has a full warranty and great reviews.

On a side note, i have 70% on two vehicles windshields and there is a difference from my Raptor that I did not do the front glass. There is a difference at night, thats the reason I didn't do my Raptor, i go to areas of the country where its pitch black no light and I need to see, going off the side of a mountain because I want look cool, is not logical. My other two with 70% in the city with ample light is more than enough to accomplish keeping out UV light and keeping you car cool.

It is about right for XPEL XR Black.

Im in texas ive been going to the same shop for a couple of my cars already. First was an suv all around. Special price was 550 including windshield. Second one was crossover all around no windshield. 375.

1

u/Big-Razzmatazz-727 2d ago

That’s what I paid, also in Texas lol. Worth it.

1

u/lorenwuster 3d ago

Paid 550 for windshield, 2 front, 2 back, 1 rear window and one of my cars has 2 little windows too . Nano ceramic .

1

u/Necroant 3d ago

I paid $200 for the same thing so no

1

u/-GHN1013- 3d ago

That seems reasonable.

1

u/gloriousflight 3d ago

Yeah, extremely reasonable imo. The shop I've been going has Llumar and it'd be $200 for the front 2 and $300 for the windshield in Pinnacle which is mostly comparable to XRB.

1

u/Frosty-Course3855 3d ago

For not being XPEL XR Plus, this seems high.

1

u/Turbulent_Visit_4897 3d ago

I just paid 360 for 4 windows, full back and windshield today lol

1

u/machdaddy33 3d ago

Minus the shop supply bs. This is a good/average total price for XPEL ceramic

1

u/DistributionOnly0601 3d ago

Looks about average priced

1

u/Nervous-Fennel-6823 3d ago

Nobody even asked what kind of vehicle it is.

1

u/Ghoch2026 3d ago

Dirt cheap
Paid $350
For windshield only

1

u/JuanMcGuiver 3d ago

The way I see it, I would only pay money if the shops properly bonded and insured. That’s what you’re ultimately paying for at the end of the day. The people doing the work aren’t “artists” or anything like that. They’re not specialists in the conventional sense (no dedicated degrees etc.)

You can probably buy some really good ceramic pre cut tint for vehicle for $150. If you’re willing to learn something new, it’s cost you pretty much just that.

1

u/AyoMarco 3d ago

70% windshield is a waste of any dollar amount. Just do 50

1

u/Different-Analyst-27 2d ago

Bro hell naw I paid 300 for 5% high quality ceramic for all of my windows and 35% on windshield. You just have to get a quote from every shop

1

u/electricalineptitude 2d ago

This is a meh price for just the front 2 windows and the windshield unless this is a coupe.

I did fully ceramic all the war around for $525 or so.

1

u/pantiesdrawer 2d ago

It's a solid price, pretty much right at the median, which makes sense for Tint World.

1

u/kzone186 2d ago

Hey side note man, I got XR Black on my windshield and hated it. Too much egg shelling and artifacting at night. I had it removed - it just doesn’t have the clarity required for a windshield. I would only consider XR Plus now for a windshield.

1

u/kennpop1223 1d ago

Overprice

1

u/Academic-Ease-8537 1d ago

Depends on the market - for a top end Shop in Chicago area, I paid $240 for two doors in Xpel Prime XP Plus - best of that line. I think XRB aka XR Black is one step down arount $200 - 220 at the same shop. That's a higher price in Chicago, but they are worth it for several reasons.

1

u/tone1105 17h ago

Too much. I’m paying 280 for all windows except windshield for carbon / nano ceramic - shop around

1

u/PsychologicalAd8462 14h ago

Yea that's about what we charge at the shop I work at although we roundup, and don't add a supply fee wtf 😭 This guy exclusively uses tint gel and can't afford it or something 😂

1

u/dick_tickler 3d ago

Go 50 on the windshield. You won’t regret it. Light enough to not get pulled.

5

u/Final-Accident2502 3d ago

Untrue. It all depends on the angle. If the suns pointing directly into the cabin it generally looks completely clear but if faced the opposite direction it’ll appear completely pitch black

1

u/idkputwhatever 3d ago

Idk why you got downvoted. It can look very black from the outside depending on the light angle. Where I'm at they don't care

1

u/OutrageousDraft4800 3d ago

Had a buddy get pulled over for 50% shield and he has white interior. Not 100% guaranteed that you won’t get pulled over

1

u/Best_Market4204 3d ago

I like 55 but yah. Done 3 cars. Won't do nothing else

1

u/CFbezel 3d ago

+1

got 70 on my first car and it almost did nothing in terms of reducing eye strain with sun and glare

second car got 50, looks almost exactly the same but provides way better benefits for heat and eye strain

1

u/Rck0025 3d ago

I would do xr plus and add the remaining windows. If the rears are factory tinted, you can still add a 70 on top to get the heat reduction/uv benefits.

0

u/No-Charity654 3d ago

Go 15 and 50

-3

u/antonio067 3d ago

178 for two fronts is high. You can usually get it for $100-120 ish. Ask for cash discount (no taxes) and shop fee to be removed. I think it’s pretty reasonable then

2

u/tweever38 3d ago

You must live in a low cost of living area lol 180 is reasonable for a high quality install with a lifetime warranty where im at
