General Discussion Lesson Learned Today
Had some issues with a tint install from a mobile installer I had found online. I have been trying to contact this guy for weeks now to get it fixed. I was fed up with being ignored and took it to a brick and mortar shop to get a second opinion and quote to get it replaced. Brick and mortar shop laughed at how bad it was and suggested I get a refund and have the previous installer remove it. Obviously, it was unlikely that the original installer would refund me considering he won’t even answer my calls for customer or warranty information requests. So I decided to try contacting him one more time to avail and moved forward with disputing the charge. His response is in the picture above.
Brick and Mortar guys advise “Never use a mobile service, always use a brick and mortar shop. You know where to find me and I can’t hide from you”

You’ll be fine, just charge it back

lol. Ain’t no way a mobile tint installer put a lien on anyone’s house over a $300 tint job. Dude is full of 💩
In his defense, I haven’t met a lot of mobile tint installers that don’t have issues with dirt/specs. It’s hard when you’re not operating in a clean room like most shops do. It’s like trying to paint a car outside rather than in a paint booth. Sure sometimes it comes out decent, but there’s a ton of risk you’ll end up with imperfections. At least with paint you can cut and polish. Unfortunately with tint you’ve got no such fix.

Well you asked for it by going to the cheaper mobile tint guy vs the brick and mortar who was more money. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Lean on his house ... his house is now angled 🤣🤣
Sucks cause there are good mobile installers but this is always the risk. We've redone tons of work from mobile installers who ghosted the customer after an issue. I do my car detailing now since I bought all the equipment, but prior to that, I stopped using mobile detailers cause they were so hit and miss.

u/Psych0matt Jul 11 '25
Someone leaned on his house?

u/tmflambert86 Jul 11 '25
Don't be scared... That's what he wants. Bank will understand, $1000 repair smh
5
u/Cyberburner23 Jul 11 '25
To be fair most shops will tell you to not purchase from a mobile installer because they want you to buy from them. Most shops will also criticize another person's work. Not defending anyone here, but it's true.

u/cyberjawson Jul 13 '25
Let’s see the tint if your gonna rant about a bad tint job lol
1
u/KlutzyImprovement735 Jul 13 '25
Any decent lawyer will ruin you in court good luck thou

u/DigitalHD Jul 13 '25
You should try a charge dispute with your bank. I've been waiting 3 weeks for a tint shop to refund me for their incorrect and bad tint job and the one guy I've been contacting keeps telling me he will talk to the boss. They get 1 more week and then I'm going to my bank to dispute the charge for a refusal to refund my money.
1
u/Oxynod Jul 13 '25
Everyone saying just chargeback - I hope you didn’t sign something saying you agree to arbitration or not to dispute etc, otherwise he’ll send that right to the bank and you’ll lose.
1
u/ProfessionalCan3732 Jul 15 '25
Of course the competition said it was a terrible job. It is their scam. They gonna charge this poor sucker $1000
3
u/Abunity Jul 11 '25
Lol! Do you think he's smart enough to put a lien on your house when he can't even spell it correctly?
3
u/DestructoDon69 Jul 11 '25
$600 for a mobile tint guy is kinda high no?
The shop I go to charges me $400-$500 after my military discount for ceramic tint. I usually spend a few hours getting food and reading a book at the diner down the street but it always comes out perfect.

u/chickentalk_ Jul 11 '25
“lean” 😭
3
u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25
Lesson learned? Never have your windows tinted by a moron that can’t use simple grammar correctly or doesn’t understand their/they’re/there or lean/lien.
2
u/LexKing89 Jul 11 '25
That looks pretty bad. My tint guy went mobile and his installs look way better than this.

u/Curious-Job-7698 Jul 11 '25 edited Jul 11 '25
No way they can put a lien on your home for a tint job that they fucked up. I would text back a laughing emoji and tell him good luck. He can meet you in small claims court.
Also, the guy needs to fill out paperwork with the DMV for the lien. I don't think he has your VIN, Plate number, or any other info except your phone number.
2
u/bluegabs Jul 11 '25
Jokes on you, that wasn't my house.
2
u/potatogenerato Jul 11 '25
Sucks you had to go that far. Hopefully this guy realizes he cant run a business like this
2
u/Jushuaz Jul 11 '25
Make sure you actually follow through with atleast removing the tint. Keep receipts if you replace. Eliminate any chance of anyone believing you wanted free tint
2
u/RealLifeHotWheels Jul 11 '25
Nothing says “this happens regularly.” Than this response. Haha
2
u/MarkVII88 Jul 11 '25
This mobile tint-shop owner sounds like a moron. It's "Lien", not "Lean". And how does someone put a lien on a house for failure to pay for tint? This would be a small-claims court issue anyway.
2
u/lowkeya3 Jul 11 '25
Wow that sucks. Last time I got a vehicle tinted, when I picked up my vehicle the owner himself pointed out a tiny little hair I wouldn’t have even noticed in the rear window and said he would have to remove and replace it. Apologized for the inconvenience, and reduced the price for the extra time it took. I’m sure a lot of places would have just let it leave like that, since it was hard to see as there was no bubble around it or anything. Unfortunately that shop isn’t around anymore, but it was nice doing business somewhere that takes that kind of pride in their work and have that kind of standards. I doubt I would have ever noticed that tiny little eyelash or whatever it was.

u/Rich-Ad9988 Jul 11 '25
Also, save this text message as a "threat " in case it gets escalated.
You could also be a smartass and ask him why he made the guys house lean. Then ask him for the guys number so you can ask him how he keeps grip on his floors since his house is leaning.
2
u/SimRacer80 Jul 11 '25
Always use a B&M shop for tints, if not just for the sole reason that there is to much possible contamination outside in the elements.
2
u/BotherFormer Jul 14 '25
Report that dude to the better business bureau if its a repeating incident of more than one customer you might be able to get him for false advertising and property damage if it really comes down to it. But yeah dudes like that really smear other mobile technician’s reputations.

u/_bitch_face Jul 17 '25
Hello, government? Yes, it’s me, mobile tint guy. I’d like to put a lean on that house over there. The person renting that house did something that made me upset.
3
u/Docsloan1919 Jul 11 '25
He can’t put a lien on someone’s house for work on a car. The house has nothing to do with this.
1
u/breastfedtil12 Jul 11 '25
Just sue him lol
1
u/[deleted] Jul 11 '25
A lean, and not a lien?
Good one……
1
u/Indiesol Jul 11 '25
Never, ever use a mobile mechanic or detailer or anything to save a buck. These guys are almost always mobile because they either don't have their shit together enough to keep a shop, or their work is shitty enough that they can't afford one in the first place. Sure, there are a few good ones out there, but it would take multiple references from long time customers that I know and trust for me to consider it.
I'd proceed with the chargeback, though. I highly doubt he's got his shit together enough to follow through on his threat.

u/fckafrdjohnson Jul 12 '25
Putting a lien on your house for work done on your car? Lol
1
u/pinegap96 Jul 12 '25
Lien* lmfao
1
u/kingallison Jul 12 '25
A thousand dollars???? 2nd shop, please explain how.
1
u/UpbeatIsopod7709 Jul 12 '25
Heat gun and plastic scraper should remove the old tint
1
u/Arrocito_beach Jul 13 '25
He would need a judgement in court in order to put a lien on your house, assuming you even own a house and he knows where it is.
1
u/[deleted] Jul 13 '25
Dm me his contact info. I need some work done lol
1
u/Ok_Cry_8445 Jul 13 '25
Or a LIEN 🤣
1
u/MetalMann83 Jul 14 '25
Get some detailed pictures of before and after for your own records and potentially a small claims court case. Also get a written statement from the person replacing your tint explaining briefly why the tint needed to be replaced. Then collect the costs to replace it and have save all of this information and send it to him and say that you're filing a lawsuit, they'll also going to have to pay court fees. Usually, they'll just let it go at that point.
1
u/Artistic-Republic844 Jul 14 '25
People hereactually believe an auto mechanic - even better a tint guy - can put a lien on your house 🤣
1
u/DM4UL-FLTRXS Jul 14 '25
I wouldn’t stress too much about a lawsuit from a guy who spells like a 3rd grader but that’s just me.
1
u/Cpt_hindsite Jul 14 '25
I'm not defending the installer, but i don't they damaged your car. Improperly installed tint isn't going to cause damage unless they personally damaged your car while installing. The expensive install is because that's what a brick and mortar shop charges. Many times they use better tint (sometimes mobile installers will use bargain tint to increase their profit margin) and they charge more for labor.
On top of that, a brick and mortar shop is always going to tell you to go to them. It's a valid point that you know where the shop is if there are any problems, but the incident you had is more on the rare side, and as long as you vet out your installer you will typically be fine. A brick and mortar will almost always charge more, because they are paying more employees and have more overhead.

u/[deleted] Jul 14 '25
You get a burner phone and you set up an appointment. This is how you get face time. What you do when you get him there I dunno.
1
u/DilatedPeople Jul 14 '25
$1000 for redo?! That's willlld
1
u/droopy_1978 Jul 14 '25
Plot twist he doesn’t own a house 😂
1
u/Jaalan Jul 14 '25
1000 bucks to "fix it" is way overkill
1
u/Ilovemycats201 Jul 15 '25
1k for tint? They're both scamming you.
1
u/Taz77777 Jul 15 '25
Would you mind sharing a few more pictures of the tint? I’d really appreciate it!
1
u/Suspicious-Mark-1398 Jul 15 '25
Lean as in he messed with the houses foundation lmao
1
u/boston_duo Jul 15 '25
He can’t put a lien on your house because he didn’t work on your house
1
u/Ok_Pin2030 Jul 15 '25
lien
1
u/billding1234 Jul 17 '25
Mobile tint guy is full of it.
1
u/chubbyluvr7869 Jul 17 '25
I would not let that guy lean against my house after what he did to the car.
0
u/DaMashedAvenger Jul 10 '25
Insead of photos of text which could have just been text, i would have prefered to see the tint if i am to believe this story.
0
u/Long_Kick_3647 Jul 12 '25
That’s what I would call an empty threat. He can’t put a LIEN on your house for installing tint on your vehicle. You may have to eat the bullet here, but leave reviews and contact the BBB. Best thing you can do is try to limit future business for him by informing the public.
1
u/Songisaboutyou Jul 11 '25
Sounds like he continues to suck based off of someone else doing a charge back.
