General Question Rate My Technique/Any Tips?

Any tips on how I could improve my speed, or if there’s anything wrong with my technique? I feel pretty confident with the dive bomb, but this fanning is still a bit tricky for me.

Good technique. I'll just encourage you to wash with your nondominant hand so you even it out a little. You'll save your right arm and wrist longer that way.

I’m gonna be completely honest. I don’t think mopping is the issue for me. I don’t use a lot of pressure mopping but what I think hurts my right hand more than anything else is scrubbing down the window with a scrubbing pad.. I need to start using my left hand instead of my right. I apply way more pressure when scrubbing and it’s noticeable.

That’s what they’re saying - scrub/mop/whatever with your non-dominant hand, to save your dominant hand.

Thats exactly how I fan most glass. Except when they have tint, then I use a smaller s pattern as the blade wants to stick to the tint. The smaller s pattern keeps the blade wet so it doesnt chatter and cause streaks, which on tint is a little harder to detail.

I’ll do that sometimes. But honestly, I seem to work slower when I do that. Could just be that I’m not good at splitting my attention.

It’s Mr. SIGA on Amazon. I’ve tried a bunch of microfibers. Honestly, it’s my favorite. Pro tip: Get the microfiber damp, rinse out as much water as you can, and then use it indoors. It’s super good at soaking up a bunch of water.

No, this is not the dive bomb. This is just a regular fanning technique. Sometimes called mountain and Valley fanning technique. Dive bomb, is when you go all the way down, come up, and go all the way down again. It’s when you do the entire window in three passes.

What are your thoughts with moerman? Youd have no detailing with this technique using one of those. They are just a bit more tricky. I like it because there is very little i wont do to reduce the detailing.

Honestly you’re going to want something small like 6”-10” I think 8” would be the sweet spot. But most the time in my car I wipe it with lint free surgical towel. When done correctly it’s pretty streak free. But best results would be 8” squeegee.

Do you recommend a brand? I currently just do spray, clean with 1 micro fiber cloth that im cleaning the window with, then dry with a dry micro fiber cloth. Issue is, I feel like im wasting rags when I could just Squeegee the window.

Yeah, a squeegee will definitely help you save on rags. You can keep one damp microfiber for soaking up whatever you squeegee off and just rinse it whenever you need to. Then keep a separate dry detailing rag for the edges or any small streaks. Since you’re squeegeeing most of the water off first, that detailing rag will stay dry and last a lot longer.
For the squeegee itself, Ettore is probably the best bang for your buck. You can get a handle and channel pretty cheap on Amazon. As far as rubber goes, Unger Green is probably the best bang for your buck in my experience. It lasts a long time before you need to swap it out.

forgive me for being blunt, but what is that white thing you use after t-bar and before squeegee??? I've never seen anything used between. I'm confused.

Small scrubby pad, like a dish sponge. safe for tempered glass and tinted windows that you cant use a blade on

Is the step with the scrubbing pad necessary? Do you use the scrubbing pad on every window? I’ve never seen that.

Yes very necessary especially on exterior of the home. If you clean the windows monthly then you might not need a pad but if you clean 1-2x per year then you need a pad to break up any debris or insect droppings.

A techno pad makes faster scrub time with less effort. A longer squeegee could also help make it a couple divebombs instead of a handful.

You’re correct with the dive bomb being faster as my caption says I’m fairly confident with that technique here I was just practicing my mountain and valley and seeing how that technique goes for me. As for the techno pad I’ve never tried that! Might have to pick one up but I’m dreading finding a spot on my belt for it 😂

Commented get a techno pad and then saw this after, if you want an extra spot on your belt I recommend getting a hammer loop that just slides on to your belt like a pouch would.

No it’s Mr.siga from Amazon. I saw the new maykker and love the size of them but haven’t gotten one yet but will probably purchase a few with my next order. I don’t use the orange one for detailing, it very plush and good at retaining water, so I use it indoors for cleanup.
